Posted this in Washington forum, but I may get more replies posting it here, so here goes:

Hey all,
I will be moving back to the beautiful Pacific Northwest soon and am looking for ways to be self-employed while still enjoying being outside in the forest. I know I won't get rich quick or anything doing this.....just a way I can generate a little income so as to put gas in the tank, buy dog food, etc. I remember helping my grandfather pick ferns when I was younger - and seem to remember he could make over 100/day but that it was hard work....bending hunched over all day long.

My question to the folks that do this is, how did you get started? Learning under someone or just trial and error by yourself? I know there are roadside buyers for shrooms, but for herbs/roots/floral stuff - where are the best places to look for buyers of that stuff? Can you easily fill orders on your own for those companies or do you work with some kind of crew going at it?

Any other advice you can give would be most appreciated! Would love to find someone to learn under in Washington, but I know most pickers can be justifiably secretive so any help you can give to a young guy just starting out will help.
Thank you!
