It's not that most voted for Trump as much as they voted against Hillary and Nafta. Big difference in reasoning for casting . It could have been Mickey mouse against her and Mickey would have won.
college students in three well known universities each preferred clinton. And they voted such. Was pleased when I sat and listened to their overall informed reasoning that they understood the real world concerns and who was more versed on a worldly level. The rural voter chose to vote on issues they "think" trump will revise in their favor...not realizing trump is business ..not a rural business owner.

Business owners both city and country, large and small, manufacturers, service, extraction have all suffered form Obama's hatred. I voted for a businessman, not a person who never had a real job. Hillary only "worked" for nonprofits and governments. She's no better than the Kenyan.

Let the good times roll. When Hillary tries again in 2020, perhaps from prison, she'll encounter scorn and ridicule worse than this time by far.

Alaska was basically the opposite of the rest of the US in that the more rural the region, the more likely it went blue, pretty much. But Anchorage and it's surrounding area have about half the state's population (a large percentage of which are people from the Lower 48 who moved up here to do the Alaska thing but decided they couldn't imagine life without a McDonald's on every corner, and so stay in their comfy little city box in Los Anchorage) so they lead the rest of us by the nose.

LOL.

My small hometown in rural farmland U.S.A. lost its three largest employers, all manufacturing, all related to the agricultural industry. The factories didn't pull out under the Obama administration. They didn't pull out under the Clinton administration, either, for that matter. The largest one left during the latter portion of the Bush, Sr. administration, and the other two left when Dubya was in the house.

But it's all cool, because Trump's bringing all those manufacturing jobs back, amirite?

At least, that's how everybody there is calling it. I wish them well with that. Their manufacturing jobs are NOT coming back. Sorry 'bout those crumbling superfund sites, y'all. Good luck with that.

Yet righties hate being painted with a broad brush Considering how messed up america is, that may not be a bad idea. Trust me, americans are hateful and violent enough to find other ways to kill. Like voting Republican, for example

Many rural people can not bring themselves to vote for a candidate who is pro-choice and favors gun control.

I am like most of my fellow rural neighbors in that category.

I never understood that from the rural right, actually right in general. I personally am against abortions-so therefore I will neither perform one, nor have one, nor have my female loved ones have one.
I'm not comfortable with same-sex weddings, so I most likely will not have one, nor will I attend one.

Why do so many feel the need to dictate their 1950 moral BS on others. The right loves to yap about how they are so set against Big Government and it's intrusion-except when it's snoopin in everyone's bedrooms, or trying to force their Ward Cleaver morals on the world-then big government is just fine.
Bedroom morals are a big to do, but boardroom morals don't concern them. Odd bunch

Let us all know how that works out for ya!! You voted for a businessman who could give one rats arse about the middle class or rural america. A businessman whos casinos LOST money!!!!

Great job at the polls there rural america. Way to shoot yourselves in the feet with all those guns you brag about having. But it's all good as long as those awful non-white folks are gone behind "The Wall"" and when rural america is truly decimated by Ol' Squirrel Wig; Hillary will be just fine and living the high life-same as Donald. LOL
Guess the stereotype IS true.

maine has one large city Portland....and its the liberal mecca of maine ,,,,,a few other cities (big towns) voted democrat,,,,but the vast rural maine voted trump..

this was more a "vote against" election....

there is a difference between rural maine and living in the city ..

most rural mainers have a tradition of hunting.....the average household income is low in maine so this provides wild game in the basement freezer....

most hunters lean right....(unless you work for the government)

also over regulation (from dems) have compromised jobs and development ) in rural mane
