I'm new to rural living. The first time I saw three deer 30' away thru my window, I think it's a mother leading 2 adolescent children, I was very excited. But then I start to find they poop close to the house; sometimes even on my deck. I'm not sure how to make of it now.

Do you like to have deer around your house?

I wish they would visit my rural property.
It would be nice to step out on the deck and fill my deer tag...
Venison in the freezer...
YUM!

They eat our Hostas, as do the cottontails, and we have to avoid them when driving in the early morning or at dusk, but their poop has never been an issue. It's actually good for the garden, but if you don't want it on the deck there are repellents that can be used. The Coyotes and bears are a bigger concern, especially for those with cats and small dogs.

No, I don't like them. They get in my garden, and upset my cats!

I love watching deer. They've visited our yard for 25 years, and I have yet to see or step in deer poop. They are inquisitive creatures, peaceful, and quite beautiful in my eyes. They don't get in our garden because we fenced it to keep them out. They are welcome here anytime.

Deer, elk, antelope, yes.

Bear and cougar, not so much.

Only one time, right outside my window. I was getting ready to eat lunch and I the noticed the deer walk right past my window. On the subject of cats, the neighbor's cat was following right behind it. The cat didn't seem scared at all. LOL.

I often see them, mostly across the street in groups of five or six.
We have acre+ lots out here. I like seeing them (southern Colorado)
My brother lives up in northern Colorado and we see them going through
his yard when we visit.

What do you have on your deck that would attract them? Their coming onto a structure would be unusual.

Having said that, you've moved to the country. Unless you want to do some involved changes and spend what could amount to a fair bit of money you'll need to adapt to animals coming in at night. Deer, possums, raccoons as well as, depending on where you are, coyotes and bear.
