In the small towns I've lived the the two most common pastimes were gossiping and drinking heavily. I think people get so bored those are the only two things they can find to do. I don't miss that aspect of small town living at all.
I used to live in a neighborhood in a small town (not the whole town) where things get thrown way out of proportion. I could get a cut on my finger working in my yard and, by the time the story gets around, something tore my arm off. Didn't let it bother me though. I learned as a little boy when somebody tells things about you, just ignore them and go on. At least you know the truth and that's all that matters.
We've been here a month and went on two hikes with the local hiking club since starting this thread.
Just wanted to update but this is a wonderful town. No sure if this has anything to do with it but those who are not retired, are still working. Not sure there is even one person here on welfare. If so, he must be working. 125 people and even during winter, there seems alot to do here in this recreational area.
There are as many people in this entire county as there were in our small town
It seems though many want to know about you, most have good motives. Small towns seem to be more careful to ensure those they haven't seen for a while, are still doing ok.
Now the driving almost two hours to work each way is getting old. Sure hope I can reduce it to just one hour each way. So many here are retired that tomorow I am going to go door knocking. To those still working. Maybe we can carpool. Heck I'd switch jobs just to not have to drive so much
