South Dakota is my pick, but find the politics there too overly socially conservative for my taste. Sioux Falls has a very strong economy and no state income tax. Not a fan of North Dakota's climate, Nebraska and Kansas are too high tax, Oklahoma and Texas are far too hot.

You left out Texas, Minnesota, Iowa, and the eastern parts of Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado.

Of all the states mentioned, ND is my favorite. Most friendly people, and wide open spaces. Absolutely brilliant sunsets there.

Oklahoma has 11 level three ecoregions.
South Dakota and Kansas have 8.
Nebraska has 6.
North Dakota has 4.

I'm sure most people would be surprised that the plains states were this diverse. But Oklahoma is as diverse as any place in the lower 48 (except CA) if you go by ecoregions.

I think in this poll there is bigger demand for the cooler summers of NE and SD. Also, Oklahoma isn't rural enough for a lot of rural lovers, due to the hugeness of Oklahoma City and Tulsa. And pollsters also don't like Oklahoma because there are more tornadoes there. Am I right, folks?

NE and SD can get very hot, dry summers.

My ranking is a bit different,..

1. South Dakota
2. North Dakota
3. Nebraska
4. Oklahoma
5. Kansas

South Dakota has The Black Hills....that's what makes it win for me,
along with the Badlands.

North Dakota has badlands too...but is even colder....

Nebraska...I like the terrain near the Wyoming border ...Scottsbluff area...
also the sandy areas near Valentine.

Oklahoma...I prefer it over Kansas because has mountains ...
actually a few different ranges ...Wichita Mountains...Ouachita Mountains...

Kansas ...seems to be not as scenic as the others

Texas. (The Great Plains covers the largest part of the State.)

Yes, I've been to Guymon, not Guyton, several times. I have also been further west to Boise City, OK and it's even more remote, tiny and rural. I can't imagine ever living there.
