forest beekeeper, sounds like you've built a good life for yourself and your family. I envy that kind of clarity. I can only imagine what an upbringing in the Central CA Valley must have been; I guess the farm life left a good taste in your mouth, considering your resolve to have that life for yourself.
Gotta say that most of those places you mentioned don't strike me as urban though, other than Naples, which is interesting to me since half of my family is from there and I always wanted to see it. Thanks.
How about a town of about 2500? I've lived here in western Kentucky all my life (so far!) and the largest town I have lived in was 13,000. People are friendly, and won't hesitate to say hello, even if you don't say hello first! One funny thing about small towns. My wife said that's how CNN got the idea of getting the news out to everybody fast! lol On our first date she wanted to meet someplace where everybody knew her. So we ate on a Sunday where everybody goes to eat after church. By the time we stopped back by her place, her mother said several people had called to see who I was! lol I'm about a mile from downtown. We're about 10-15 miles from two of the largest man made lakes in the world. So tourism is a big industry. We're maybe 5 miles from the interstate if you need to get somewhere in a hurry. Come on out and visit a good All American small town somewhere!

Well I was poking fun a bit but I see a lot of NYC weekenders and one I spoke to actually spent 3 weeks at his home in the country and said he went nuts. Similarly the city folk love it here but could never live here full time. I'd say rent a cabin in a remote area that you might choose, bring everything you need for a couple weeks and see how you like it. If you feel like you never want to go back to a city then it might be right for you.
Also Brown truck UPS and yes you can get awesome pizza kits from Italy if you want.

Yeah, thanks, I think the temporary, feeling out period is the best best. That is a fail-safe.
... Nice to hear that your dad is still so active and doing well. We should all be so lucky.

My grandparents all lived into their late 90s and died from accidents [traffic or livestock], so I guess that we live long.
As for Italy, you should really go there.
