Yea I learned that one too. There is gun fire all around here. Few pay any attention to when Deer season is. They just shoot one in their back yard if they happen by whenever. Same with those wild hogs. They shoot and eat anything out here. I feel real out of place being a vegetarian out here. Everything else in life I seem to fit in.......until I open my mouth and they hear my accent. But no one gives me a dirty look or a hard time. Everyone is friendly.

Amen...I lived in New Mexico. Now back in NE Ohio...ugh.

All the dirt roads out there in NM are better than the potholed streets in Cleveland.

I wrote this originally for the Arkansas thread....about Californians moving to rural Arkansas...but it applies equally as well here....

People are evacuating Khali-porn-ya because the situation there has become completely untenable.
Housing, even with the down turn is still outrageously expensive. In any decent town or neighborhood the cost of housing is still WAY over 1000$ per square foot.....in the crappy gangsta neighborhoods houses and condos are in the high 200's and up.... (that's 200,000.00$)
The illegal immigrant invasion is really starting to negatively impact peoples lives....schools are full of them....hospitals...the emergency rooms are full of them....every parking lot for every hardware store paint store lumber yard.....illegals hanging around...loitering....The streets are getting filthier, and more dangerous. My home town is seeing more crime....daylight carjacking, robberies muggings. We had a murder here in town on the very steps of city hall....granted that was in the evening, but considering the fact that the main police station was in the basement of the city hall building....did little to dissuade this mutant killer. Downtown USED to be a neat place to go in the evenings.......no longer.....The police forces here have been completely emasculated by endless ENDLESS political correctness and lots of people here are getting worried about crime, though they don't have the political will, the nerve to admit it. On the surface most people here attack the police, but secretly, they're getting worried....that the police won't be able to protect them....sheesh...we can't even control speeders here in this town....we can't even stop the gangsta taggers.....
Homeless people are everywhere.....filthy.....crazy....violent.....the y smell BAD...begging for money to feed their fat bellies....Just the other day some homeless started a fire that brought down some power lines right across both north and south bound lanes of highway 101....I think it is eight lanes at that location, four each way....stopped traffic both ways for hours and hours on a weekday evening.......
Californians are getting sick of it....the graffiti.....the homeless wandering about...the illegal immigrants (gardeners) steeling....the crime....The stupid massive welfare system that has completely bankrupted the state...and now they are going to tax and tax and TAX even more.....to pay for more welfare for more totally Undeserving worms....
So we are leaving, I'm leaving it to the crazy goofy liberals to figure it out....I'm going to watch it on T.V. from a good safe distance. I'm moving out as soon as I get back from the "sand-box"...to a state that I won't name because so far it has not been totally infected by Kali-porn-ya liberals....and I want it to stay that way. In fact I WILL go out of my way to DISCOURAGE ANY liberals from settling there....
Yea, the State is NOW IN an economic meltdown because of generations of unfunded mandates, runaway taxation, hideous regulation, and the answer will be MORE TAXES...MORE REGULATIONS....LESS AND LESS FREEDOM....
I know that conservative Republican and middle of the road Californians (mostly native born I suspect) are leaving in droves too. While liberal Kali-porn types are also moving out I think that they are fewer in number, and, they seek to liberalize where ever they move, but with out all the negative impacts of their stupid politics, they want the touch-feely "I'm so holly and good" politics...pro-homeless, pro-"gay" pro-illegal immigrant...but they don't actually want to live in a community that is full of such people.... sort of a NIMBY in reverse....(Not In My Back-Yard) they simply move to where such people are few...but they keep their stupid left/socialist politics....safer for their kids....
So if they move to your town, be very careful. Californians move in (some of them) and they right away want to stop hunting, and off-road-ing and wood stoves and all the rest of it.....pretty soon you'll have a "gay" parade.....Don't think so? I've already seen it in some inter mountain west towns....
If conservative Californians move in welcome them (cautiously at first) but be very wary of big city types that move in and right away want to get involved in local politics, the PTA and all the rest of it. For the good of your town your schools and community make sure that you prevent Californians becoming entrenched in the political structure of your municipality. (make sure they fully ASSIMILATE to YOUR lifestyle....not letting them impose THEIRS on YOU..) Because if you don't once they are in...they'll change things to the way THEY want it....and it will be very difficult to undo....They are smart-a.s.sed and crafty and know all the dirty legal and political tricks. They talk fast and act fast. So if.....when they start coming in....be ready for them. Be nice....be ready....hold your ground, make SURE that your people, politicians and police are all on the same page regarding ENFORCING the laws of the land....(and don't let kali-porn-yans change them....) Make sure that your laws regarding illegal immigrants, indecent exposure, loitering, vandalism etc. are ENFORCED....if you don't you'll regret it...because these people come from a state where those laws are IGNORED....(or worse...breaking them is encouraged...tolerated....) and when they more to your town they will expect you to ignore them as well.....You LOOSE....

Oh really... actually it was the lack of regulation in the financial system that was responsible for a large part of this mess.

Stay in your small town, less people will have to listen to this ignorance you spew.

. Hmm it's not ignorant at all. Things such as were described happen all to regular. Thus it's not surpriing that rural born and bred people are reacting with anger and suspicion to people moving in from urban areas and CA does get picked on a lot in this regard due to the fact that a great percentage of offenders come from there. I also fail to see how a lack of financial regulation has any thing to do with the topic being discussed here but ya know how us "ignorant" country folk are...rose colored glasses and all

Government mandated loans for people who couldn't afford them, the government providing loans, the government's involvement in the banking system, and on and on. Caused what we're in. If the banks were not heavily controlled by the government, and they would get no bailouts, they'd of been quite a bit more careful in their lending. Keep big brother in the city, he's not welcome in the country.

Your argument ad hominem aside (you seem to like doing that, I note, based on a few of your other posts), why is it that California, state of the nanny extraordinaire, is one of the states that had the biggest problems with this?

Now don't get me wrong, when I retire I plan on leaving California. To Liberal. To crowded, To expennsive. If not for these factors I would live here forever, Everyone seems to think that California is being evacuated...
But the facts are that CAlifornia's population is Growing by almost 300,000 per year
So (and I may be wrong, I frequently am) I believe that most of the folks leaving are sort of like me.
I'll retire and sell my house here, by some property that I can afford to have my horses on, maybe have a pond to fish in. Some woods to hunt ( without PETA banging pots and pans). and have a fire in my fireplace ( yes even that is regulated here)...
So not all Californian's want to get into local politics, or want Malls...
All I want is to fish and hunt and ride horses, I'll wave as you go by, I'll help ya get your livestock back in the fence, I'll even help ya fix the fence. I want a dirt road because that means less traffic driving by.
Hell the only way you'd know I'm from California is because my Wife is Hot...

I think I read recently that the trend has changed and more are leaving CA now than moving there, but I could be wrong.
