Well, 23 years ago I bought an already built rural home to have my plants and trees and chickens... and got everything zoned out; couldn't even paint the house the color I wanted any more. So I moved to an even MORE rural part of the country, bought a 100-year-old house and farm, and didn't clear a THING. I LIKE my rural, and want to keep it that way.
Wow, thats wild that that would happen so quickly in a rural area. It sound much more like all the gated communities in the more populous states.
It sounds like you have a great place now. I'm with you, if I lived in Nebraska I would want it to be a rural farmhouse with some land around it.
Our family farm (now my Uncle's) is in Brady/Gothenburg. (well, not in Brady but miles away with the nearest neighbor my other Uncle and Aunt a few miles away from that farm) That is about as rural as you can get and it is lovely country. I feel very lucky to have experienced working on farm and ranch in the heartland of this country.
I have family that moved to a small rural town 30 minutes from a city. After 10 years of growing sprawl their small town was annexed and is now a part of that city.

If one wants to never be part of a big city move beyond daily comuting distance of that city.
As long as you locate within comuting distance, you run the risk that someday that city will come out that far.
Well, they moved there before the whole sprawl rage and the city was barely on the map and then a boom hit. It was a small farm town that hadn't changed much in 100 years until the boom.
