I take my two dogs to this place...
Lee Veterinary Clinic - Atmore, AL (http://www.leevetclinic.com/Home.htm - broken link)

I wouldn't take them anywhere else, the staff is wonderful. I have no idea about job prospects though, and it's a long way from Canada, lol.

Large animal vets are pretty common in Maine. I have heard of lots of places with complaints, but with us...it's not an issue. The only thing that cranks me up is the price of dog vets. I took my dog for an ear infection and it set me back by 120 bucks. Checking and vaccinating 30 sheep will set you back by 80 bucks...tops! What the fanny pack is up with that?!

That is way I write out dogs off on our income tax. We have one healthy and one that costs about $4000 a year. Ya got to love them.

Hmmm... talk abt culture shock. My afghan got a cactus splinter in her paw and it got infected. She wouldn't let me near it (she doesn't bite but MAN can she RUN!) I took her to the local vet, dreading the cost of that one. The vet tech put her to sleep, shaved the paw, removed the thorn, applied antibiotics and a bootie, kept her 4 hours til she woke up, and gave me 3 weeks worth of pills. Back east, that would have been $1000. Here - $47.
