Last year we went to Roseville for the fireworks, but I'm not sure if they are having it again this year. My family may be heading to San Francisco, but it gets pretty hectic during the 4th. So where is everyone heading this year for fireworks?

We plan on buying a whole bunch of fireworks from a local church stand and blowing up our cul-de-sac real good.

Nice. Too bad our community doesn't let us do fireworks, but the Roseville/Rocklin/Lincoln area is pretty laxed about fireworks in most areas. We might go to the Cal Expo this year. I heard it's the second or third largest in California. It'll be our first time there. Anyone have experience with the Cal Expo fireworks? Is it crazy overcrowded? Any tips or suggestions you can suggest?

I've been to Cal Expo a few times... we went in to the bleachers the first year but the years after that we just got their early and tailgated in the parking lot... it was much more comfortable and we could see 98% of them. I think they sometimes do one on the ground inside ( like an American Flag) but that's all you miss... anything in the sky you can see fine. One year we were in the parking lot across a street... it was great and much easier to get out when it was over. But we did get there early.

This year I'm going up to Donner Lake

I was up in the Sac area several years ago for the 4th after a Who concert, it's was great. This year I'll be somewhere in the Tri Valley, either San Ramon or Livermore. Although the Country Fair in Pleasanton is shooting them off this Friday so maybe I'll just watch those and skip them on the 4th because it's always a hassle finding a good spot.

I have a friend doing the Cal Expo fireworks - she said if you stay til the end - they hand out free fair tickets. But it's so very very crowded, and my kids are too little to handle the long waits and sitting in the car forever just to drive home.

We are doing the Sunrise Mall fireworks, I went to it many many years ago, and it was wonderful. We are going to get there early (just me and hubby) - go have dinner and drinks til 8 ish, hopefully bit buzzed, and sit on the grass and wait for the fireworks. They are in 3 D this year.

We got invited to the Davis fireworks by a couple of my fiance's classmates, so I guess that's where we're headed. This is my first summer in the Central Valley, so I won't be able to compare it to anything in the area.

It's best if you go in one of the hoods (Oak Park, G Parkway, The Gardens, etc), you'll see a bunch of illegal fireworks for free.
