A few years ago - it was all over the news.

Is there anything else in the history of Sacramento that would make residents there less educated or reasonable than most other areas?

Not meant as a put-down, a legit inquiry on the history of the area.

CORRECTION: Meth NOT crack.

I think Sac is pretty average (or maybe slightly above) in regard to education levels of its residents.

I saw on another forum where people from San Fran were calling people from Sac "hicks."

What's up with that? Is there a rivalry or some other animosity between the 2 cities?

A "crack epidemic" in Sacramento in particular? No, not really, crack was and is all over, including San Francisco, Los Angeles and every other city. As to San Franciscans calling Sacramentans hicks, some San Franciscans tend to assume that the urbanity, worldliness and coolness of a place is inversely proportionate to its distance from San Francisco, a phenomenon I call "Inverse Franciscanism." People in big cities that pride themselves on their urbanity and culture tend to refer to anyone anywhere else as hicks, though, I wouldn't take it all that seriously.

My bad. It was a meth epidemic.

Ran into this...
New Generation Born With Meth Addiction - News Story - KCRA Sacramento (http://www.kcra.com/r/9266299/detail.html - broken link)
quote:
At Sutter Memorial Hospital in Sacramento, more than 500 babies each year are born addicted to meth and nearly half of the children in the intensive care unit are meth babies.

By definition as of the 2000 census Sac County is very slightly above average of the national level in education (I'm judging by the % of bachelor degrees) and far above average in income.

Refer to wburg's post on people from San Francisco. True Sacramentans think very lowly of them and don't pay any attention to what they have to say to us.

Most are mad because work shtty jobs and have to live out of a cardboard box just so say they live in San Francisco while in Sacramento we enjoy better living standards than them with the only downside of having to deal with about 8 days of 100 degree weather every year.

Well worth it to me.

Meth is everywhere. Only 2 ways you'll get rid of meth - either enact the death penalty for drug use/dealing or legalize it. Otherwise, its going to continue to be a pain in the ass.

As bluevelo says, meth (like crack) is everywhere--the focus of that story was on the Sacramento region's issues with meth because it is a Sacramento TV station. And you may note that much of the discussion is not on Sacramento proper, but the mostly rural counties surrounding it.
