I think this discussion would be rather interesting if cell phone cameras and Youtube existed when the Klan was still active. The truth is that racism and bigotry will exist no matter what - just at different levels - and how we react or tolerate it.

The video shows a white girl in a (I'm guessing) poorer black neighborhood getting pulled out and beaten. It doesn't show what happened to incite the incident or what happened after so we can only guess and make our assumptions.

Now if the scenario is different - and we see a Hispanic man in a rich white neighborhood dragged out and beaten, what would our assumptions be? Probably that the Hispanic man caused trouble and that he deserved it.

It's easy to assume things and the scenario can change our perspective, but I agree that 5 against 1 is not only low, but vile.

I noticed, when I lived in Sacramento, everyone hated everyone equally.

Gee, why isn't *this* a hate crime? But to ask the question is to answer it.

I wish I had been there with a mace blaster and a nightstick to incapacitate and then beat on the gangbangers. But then aforementioned those who are The Deciders would prosecute me for "hate crime".
