Default Rancho Cordova

I've been living in Sac for about 5 months now. i was in RC last night driving and it didn;t look too nice. Is RC a nice city? I haven't really been through it enough to tell yet. Is there alot of crime?

The Rancho Cordova along the I-50/Folsom Blvd corridor and the Northern portion of Sunrise is not that great. The neighborhood of Anatolia, is a bit isolated, but is generally a decent area. Gold River, which is immediately north of Rancho Cordova is considered a desirable area.

Personally I think most parts of Rancho Cordova are not soo great! There are some ok areas and the newer parts west of 50 are better but I wouldn't buy a home there.

Default Take your chances

I have lived in the Anatolia community almost 5 yrs. For the last 2 yrs it has had crime. Houses get robbed during the day while people are at work and cars have either gotten stolen or broken into. Some of the arrests that have happened in the neighborhood have been by residents that are renters. Every time we see the sheriff helicopter we call it the "Ghetto Bird", because when it's hanging out, it means something is going down. My husband works with the sheriff and Rancho Pd so we see all the activity on paper. If you want the latest on crim in the area, email subscribe to www.spotcrime.com
It also has an interactive map.
August 2010 I called the police to report a guy breaking into my neighbor's vacant home and even got the tag number. My daughter goes to a school in Stone Creek community and parent's cars are getting randomly getting broken into, while they are picking up and dropping off their children. The rif raff has definately traveled on the other side of hwy 50.

I also live in Anatolia and my family and I have a much different experience. Crime in Anatolia is low compared not only to other neighborhoods within Rancho but county wide. Unless your dealiing with neighborhoods chronically troubled with crime you generally will have long quiescent crime free periods. I have work mates who live in El Dorado Hills and Folsom who have experienced property crime or in one case a pot growing operation yet this should not detract from the well earned reputation as safe neighborhoods. Our Anatolia Yahoo group for a while now has been limited to posting about lost and found pets, reminders of the yearly carnival held at Sunrise Elementary, etc than break ins. And thanks to the Yahoo group its amazing how fast information is shared if suspicious activity is noticed.

Exactly where and nice in what regard? We stayed in a Holiday Inn just south of Hwy. 50 and it was just fine, but the neighborhood was mainly hotels and offices, not where one would live (though you didn't actually ask about nice in what regard). Some decent restaurants and large stores, including Costco, nearby.

Honestly, I would look elsewhere. Crime in Rancho as a whole has increased almost 10fold in just a few years. Prices are decent, but keep in mind you pay for what you get. Traffic through the 50/Sunrise area is also HORRIBLE. Its kinda a "dark" area though I am sure like everywhere its got its good spots, not sure where those are though.

If one is interested in Rancho Cordova the places to look would be the area bounded by Douglas Road to the north, Keifer Blvd to the south and Grant Line Road to the east (this area is called the Anatolia/Sunridge/Kavala Ranch subdivisions). Anatolia includes a mix of homes ranging from 1000 square feet (about 5% of the homes) to 6000 square feet. It also has an HOA as well as a 10,000 square foot clubhouse for use by residents of Anatolia with 3 swimming pools, party rooms, fitness facility, etc (this is a rarity for housing developments in Sacramento County). Anatolia also has the elementary school, Sunrise Elementary (K-6). Additionally, the community serves as the pick up and drop off point for the EGUSD buses which take the junior high and high school students in the area to Katherine Albiani Middle and Pleasant Grove High. There are jogging/biking trails, 3 parks, and the surrounding areas are set aside as nature preserves. Sunridge and Kavala Ranch do not have an HOA, clubhouse, school or parks (yet anyway) and because of the economy the housing mix is more limited due to a limited number of builders. However, you save yourself the HOA fee. The area is very quiet but be aware retail is non existent although the infrastructure (gas lines, sewer systems, etc are in the process of being put into one of the commercial zones that will have the future neighborhood shopping center so there is hope). Other areas in Rancho would be the Stone Creek development developed by Elliott Homes bounded by International Drive to the North, Sunrise Blvd to the East and just past Zinfandel Drive to the West and includes miles of biking/jogging trails as well as new parks. Capital Village between Data Drive to the north and International Drive to the South has an assortment of new starter homes developed by Beazer and is close to new retail shops (be aware these neighborhoods are served by Rancho Cordova schools of the Folsom Cordova Unified School District) I have read several positive comments (relatively low crime, proximity to the American River and affordable housing) about the Sunriver neighborhood to the north of Coloma and West of Sunrise Blvd but dont know much more about that area other than its located across from the Gold River development ( Gold River is not part of Rancho Cordova and the residents will adamantly deny any ties with Rancho whatsoever). It's quite nice but you may want to look for a home that has been updated since the development was built in the 1980's ( the area can be compared to a well kept luxurious automobile, however, from the 80's). I understand that it has a very stringent HOA that regulates everything down to the type of plants you can landscape with. It is served by the San Juan School District which has a sterling reputation. Be aware as families choose newer places to live enrollment has been declining and some schools may be shuttered although I doubt that would affect the Gold River Discovery Elementary School given its solid academic performance.
