Default regarding Elk Grove

I came across your post from 2007 about Elk grove and the different neighborhoods. Are you still living there or have things changed. Are there still gangs and a lot of crime in Elk Grove? Should I still avoid the north and the south part of Elk Grove? We are retired and want a comfortable and safe place to live. We want to buy in a 55 plus park. Any suggestions? (walkable to a supermarket) We do not drive.

As far as the East side, it is a wonderful area, IMO..!!
Im just about 2 blocks East of 99 freeway, within walking distance to schools, post office, banks, Restaurants, and only about 3 blocks to the all important Wallmart..( to most people anyway) LOL Its right over the freeway and I walk most of the time..
The place the other person was refering to was what is called, "old town" with quaint little antique shops, wonderful Chinese Restaurant..People walk all over here all of the time..I see no fear on any of the faces..LOL
All of Elk Grove and Laguna were having some gangs starting but our local Police Dept. has really cracked down on them..If you would want any information about the areas around here, such as crime rate, gangs, etc. I suggest you call them. Im sure they would be glad to talk to you about any information you would want.. A new Mall is going to start being built in Sept. and as far as the local paper, the Elk Grove Citizen says, it will be done by Christmas.. Now, it you would like any other information, please feel free to Email me..I will answer anything that I can or refer you to someone that knows more...
When are you planning your move? Are you looking to rent or buy?

Good day to you..

Family's with kids live all around here..I see them walking to school and playing outside all of the time..
I really would like to know where your inside information is coming from, cause if Im living in a Ghetto, like you seem to think this is, I sure would want to know about it.LOL
Have you ever even been in this area?? It sure doesn't sound like it..Have you checked about the crime that goes on in the Laguna area?

The closer to i5 you get the better it gets. 99 is like the train tracks, you don't want to cross it. unless you like liquor stores and 99cent stores. Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with those stores they are just known to bring an area down. It's not ghetto like south Sacramento but they sure are working on it. I would not live there.

I've lived here five years, near the Med Center, and I you could not give me a house in Elk Grove for free. Its gang banger territory everywhere.

The med center is like in the heart of Sac not Elk Grove. Elk grove has plenty of safe areas.

What Med Center in Elk Grove are you talking about? You mean the one in South Sacramento? When did South Sacramento became Elk Grove?

Default Finally, I will move to Britschgi Ranch Community

After spent so much time looking for a place for my retirement, I finally choose Britschgi Ranch Community. The reasons are:

1. Stay away from the Sacramento Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant area. I have suffered from the odor problem in Milpitas, CA for many years.
2. Not too close to South Sacramento area.
3. Surrounded by Laguna Creek trails that provides me great recreation opportunities.
4. Within walking distance to Camden Park, Jack E Hill Park, Mendoza Park and Van Doren Park.
5. Walking distance to Elk Grove Elementary School.
6. Biking distance to Elk Grove Senior Center.
7. Closes to shops and markets on Elk Grove Florin Road/Bond Road.
8. Direct commute bus to Sacramento downtown.
9. Good schools but not the best.
Elk Grove Elementary, API 861, 14th of 39 elementary schools in EGUSD.
Joseph Kerr Middle, API 829, 4th of 9 middle schools in EGUSD.
Elk Grove High, API 782, 4th of 11 high schools in EGUSD.

Britschgi Ranch Community is on the "other side" of Elk Grove east of the 99, south of Bond road, most homes built in 2007-2008. I love the place.

I'm from Tulare/Visalia, CA but moved to Oregon a little over a year ago. I don't like living so far from family but my husband wants some distance from his. So we are moving back to CA! Hello, I hope you will find the below links helpful...

Greatschools.org (gives you details of individual schools, API, test scores, test scores by ethnic group, etc)

The below link provides a visual of where the top percentile and bottom percentile schools are found...based on the below link... east of Bradshaw and south of Sheldon would be the best bet for schools in the eastern part of Elk Grove.

For the western part of Elk Grove it appears south of Bond Road and the Laguna West neighborhood would provide access to good schools

See which local areas have the most top-ranked schools - Data Center - The Sacramento Bee

East Elk Grove doesnt strike me as a bad area. I think what might put off some people are the neighborhoods surrounding Old Town Elk Grove which are older and feature modest housing. As you travel East of Bradshaw however, there appear to be newer communities like Clarke Farms, Van Ruten Ranch, Remington Estates, etc that may appeal to more people based on asthetics. The Laguna West area looks very nice as well.

Many Sacramento area cities have good and bad parts. It seems Elk Grove experienced growing pains (increased crime and traffic problems) as the population soared and certain parts unfortunately experienced a decline in the quality of life. But, again as with most cities everywhere you'll find good and bad neighborhoods (maybe Beverly Hills, Alamo, Tiburon and the like would be the exceptions...bad areas there might be homes around 1-2 million without a view instead of in the multimillions ).
