Hands down! San Diego, Orange County, or parts of Los Angeles County are ideal locations! If you can afford it, why even bother with Sacramento?

Gotta agree on San Diego. Not so much for orange county or LA...yuk.

But Sac or San Diego? San Diego all the way.

Default I think...

That you should try mid state (Catskills) New York. Look up Hudson, NY. It is THE coolest town ever. Taxes are mad low in the Catskill area. Summers are beautiful, Spring is lovely, fall is breathtaking, and for the winters, well, they're cold, but there's skiing EVERYWHERE. As far as teaching, there are colleges all over the area, with SUNY's and private colleges as well. Hudson NY is such an amazing town, and if you look just outside of it, you will find amazing prices. Look in "Athens, NY" or "Liberty, NY" also check "Kingston, NY" - real progressive, crunchy, hippie-like town. I think NY is awesome, just don't go too far up, past the Catskills, its ridiculously cold brrrrrrr. And in the Buffalo, Rochester area, they have gray winters, and it can really depress you, 5 or 6 days a week, there is NO sun whatsoever, so it's just GRAY. ughhh.

This post is "geographically challenged", but serves the purpose of illustrating that compared to Buffalo, Sacramento doesn't look too bad.

Default Driving slow in left lane

Well hopefully you're not in the left lane with the right lane open for you to merge into when someone from Cali or wherever is on your butt. It will be a wonderful day when all of us Americans can learn that basic driving concept.

I want a bumper sticker that says "Get off my a$$, you aren't in the Bay Area anymore". I really dislike that people don't have any concept of personal space. If I am waiting in line, don't stand on my shoes.

Its like Des says, if you move somewhere, have at least the common courtesy to at least try to follow local ideas or customs. I never wanted to live in SF, so don't bring it up to me because you can't afford the houses down there.

Phew..sorry, I don't mean to vent...its just one of the reasons that I am moving out of my native home.

You do pull over into the right lane right? You know... "keep right except to pass"? It would solve a lot of your issues, assuming your complaint is indeed when you're in the left lane.

Drivers are just as bad in Sacramento. It's all about "me me me" on the highways and streets. People's judgement and driving ability in this region is truly the worst I have seen in my entire life!
To complicate matters, the CHP is WORTHLESS out here. They are never around when some "ghetto-fabulous" idiot blares down I-80 at 100mph while almost taking out a dozen cars in the process. The CHP only seems to be around on their heavy enforcement weekends, usually at the end of the month when they need to collect more revenue. That's when they pull over every poor SOB for going 5 miles over the speed limit.
Lots of fun out here!

We're Manteca refugees.

I was born in Sacramento, raised in Manteca, and lived in Manteca for 6.5 more years after getting married and starting our family.

We left in June.

The best view EVER, of Manteca, was out the rearviewmirrior.

We live in CO now. It's **wonderful**

Get out, get out, get out of CA!!!!!!!

I agree with you 100%! The drivers in Sacramento are the worst I have ever seen. I have traveled a bit but never have I seen such rude behavior, such crazy driving, passing on the right.. on the shoulder! running red lights, and to make matters worse the media tends to blame pedestrians when hit by some bad driver. I have been here for nearly five years and can't wait to get out! May can not come soon enough and we are out of here!

I was crossing the street in citrus heights (sacramento) with my two year old, the light was green and someone turning right nearly hit us and then started screaming obsenities and insulting me for walking! I really hate sacramento.
