Yes, we are in the same boat. We are also seeking Colorado Springs or Fort Collins area. Heard many good things about Colorado. My husband is trying to look for work there also. It's encouraging where a house is "reachable" in Colorado, whereas a decent house is TOTALLY out of reach. We'll be sad to leave here but also excited for a new adventure and also realizing that our goal and our dream, (a house), could be in our near future. Good luck to all who are moving out of California and safe travels to you!

I want out of California also, but can't at this time. I also have found that Northern Colorado is building very nice homes at affordable prices. Sacramento is a very terrible place live. Prices are over your head and crime is out of control.

I think i will be finding out how bad Sacramento area is , after the new year . I will be moving there. i live just out side of Wilmington De . Delaware the 6th state in crime and smallest state ! I think they are working on first one in and First in crime in the USA. Horrible here , the water is undrinkable , and was told by a doc 2 weeks ago , after he figured out what one of my allergies are ! THE WATER IS NOT FILTERED HERE IN WILM DE AREA. SO HOW BAD CAN SACRAMENTO CA. BE ? I LIVED OUT IN PASADENA CA 30 YRS AGO AND LOVED IT . And i hope Sacramento will be a great place to live. SO REALLY HOW BAD CAN IT BE ? I MEAN HERE IN WILMINGTON DELAWARE YOU CANT GO INTO THE CITY AT NIGHT , BECAUSE OF THE CRIME AND GANGS . THE BURBS ARE ALMOST AS BAD! THERE ARE RAPE CASES AT U OF DEL GOING WILD. NEED I GO ON AND ON . DELAWARE ONCE A NOT GREAT BUT NOT BAD PLACE IS UGLY , DIRTY AND A BAD PLACE TO LIVE . DUPONT HAS POLLUTED THE LAND AND THE AIR , THE PAID STATE GOVERMENT TURNED A BLIND EYE . THE PEOPLE FROM "MUSHROOM COUNTRY " PA. as they are called .. DRIVE INTO DELAWARE AND BUY AND SELL DRUGS , THROW TRASH EVERYWHERE AND THEN SPEED BACK ACROSS THE BORDER ... SO HOW BAD CAN IT BE OUT THERE ? MATT

Its not necessarily the crime in a lot of areas, but it is more than it used to be. That is a big thing. The reason why a lot of people are moving out of the area is just the expensive of living in California. Housing is gone through the roof, doubled in price over the last four years.

I am another one looking to leave CA. Have lived in Southern and Northern CA, and sick of the high cost of everything. My husband and I are looking at Southern Indiana and Norhtern Kentucky. However, the housing market has declined so much here, that we are not going to be able to make enough for a considerable down payment on another one in those areas. I am hoping by Spring it will start picking up again. I have heard there are 4X's the amount of homes on the market since last year.

I lived out in Sacramento for a short while trying to make a go at Graphic design jobs in the Bay Area, no luck. Sacramento was depressing, I spent most of my days there depressed; maybe being broke was part of it, I don't know. I'm back in Atlanta now and have been for the last three years, and it's gotten old too. I miss California wheather, mountains, sunshine and beaches. I know the cost of living is crazy, but I'm over the sticker shock. I would be coming as a traveling nurse this time with my agency paying all living expenses, and a completely different income bracket. It's my way of exploring Cali and soaking up all the sun I want on someone else's dime, and putting mine in the bank!!

People are moving out of Cali all over the place. I'm actually in So. Cal (but I wear a NorCal hoodie everywhere because I hate SoCal haha) and I'm moving to Oregon. The biggest places that I've noticed Californians moving (by this message board, complaints and talking to people) are: Idaho, Oregon, North Carolina, Texas, Colorado Nevada and Arizona. ALL of these places (save for Nevada) I have heard just HATE "Californians coming and driving up prices and bringing their road rage...." So the best advice to all is wherever you move, realize there is a culture and a lifestyle the area would like to perserve so try to acclimate to the culture and lifestyle and not complain loudly about your new locale. Apparently people are REALLY sensitive about this and it's making Californians look bad.
Most middle-class Californians are being priced out of their area and moving to a place where land is a "steal" or really "cheap" and buying up property there but not realizing that they are moving to a place with a different pace, culture, and lifestyle. Because they don't realize this, they continue to bring with them the California attitude and bad habits that we are all forced to form here from years of overpopulation, crazy driving and being accosted from every angle with people trying to sell you something. We're all looking for a better life so let's keep our eyes and mind open to the place we are moving and not make them feel like they have to defend themselves against us. Californians should not be the enemies but it's really sad on many message board's states we are. They too, ought to be more open, accepting and understanding of our plight living in a hell-hole of crowded polluted concrete, but we are the ones coming to their home so let's try to make the effort. Just be conscious of your driving habits, eye contact habits, friendliness etc. Get to know the area and the natives and try to assimilate as best as possible. |

Amen, Des...you definately hit it on the head!!
We are moving to Texas. We chose Texas because we really appreciate their lifestyle and wholesome values. There has been some resistence that I have seen in my visits when I tell people I am from California. They think we are all rude SOBs just pushing our lifestyles on them. I end up changing their minds that we aren't all snobby. I LOVE how friendly people are there, very genuine. On one of the posts on the Texas board, there was a gentleman moving to Texas from another state saying that he didn't want to move into a neighborhood that had "californiaization"..which wasn't exactly a compliment. He had stated that he really didn't appreciate that whole mentality (which I think comes a lot with watching too much of The O.C or Desparate Housewives) that we all have daughters that act like Lindsey Lohan and mothers that shoot themselves with botox and try to act 20. So needless to say, had to take exception with that comment and let him know that we aren't all like that... Yes, there are things here I will miss, but there are things there that outweigh what I have here and I still have family here I can come back and visit! It will be an adventure ![]() |

I love my great Golden State, but lets face it...Who can afford a home over here anymore. Even the small dumpy towns cost too much. I can be paid slightly less money for the same job elsewhere, but purchase a home for about a quarter of what it costs in California. I grew up in Stockton, and I never I thought I'd see the day where homes would rise to the cost of what homes were worth in San Jose (my first hometown until age 7) just a few years ago. I hate that people keep moving out here and driving up the cost of living all for a little more sunshine. I blame the corporations and our state government more than anything else, and why not, when you have a bonehead like Awhnold in office. My parents are looking to move to San Antonio to retire and make the most of their pensions. I'm looking to move there too as I already have one friend out there and two more moving there. I'm am planning on pursuing a Masters myself, but for my major of Athletic Training, its limited to only Texas Tech or Stephen F. Austin. Arkansas (Fayetteville) would be the next likely school. So I'm ready to get out too. Fayetteville looks nice. I just fear tornados.
