It's interesting to see so many who fled CA in search of some place "better" coming back after they realize the grass isn't always greener . I too, left CA 6 years ago, and just moved back 6 months ago. The midwest and the southwest just weren't for me. The people were way too slow and lazy and had a lot of negative things to say about "you people from California..." So, I'm just going to budget my money, and stay here where I belong! Now I know that finding a place with affordable cost of living does not equal instant happiness. You can go buy the deal of a lifetime house for $70k in some small midwest town, but then you realize....you're in a small midwest town! Then what? I tried to find my dream town somewhere else, but it didn't happen. So now I'm back in Northern CA and couldn't be happier. I'm broke, and living in a rental house, but I'm happy!

Sacramento sounds perfect for you. Great dirt bike recreation area just south of Folsom. You don't have to drive far to be out in the middle of nowhere around here. Pretty countryside.

The grass is already getting green here. Little chilly for early February though. Average high temperature this time of year is 60.
Thanks for the reply!

Default Yes, Me Too in Sacto!

Yes, I'm struggling with it also. I'm a native but used to live in Colorado. I am going to move back there next month, but I keep digging in my heels wondering if it's a mistake, but I know it is the best decision for me.

I should have stayed there. I'll never be able to buy anything here, and I don't want to it just doesn't make any sense. I'm just holding onto the past I think. Good luck!

What part of Colorado did you live in / moving to? My wife and I are both SoCal natives and are looking into the Denver area.

Just wanted to hear from those of you in my situation.

My husband and I are considering leaving magnificant California. Though we love it to death, we don't know if it's smart to stay. We live in Sac, which I consider to be California's greatest deal (financially speaking). We want to buy a home but we haven't seen anything we could be happy with for less then $300G's.

We've been thinking about moving to San Anotonio because you can get a great house for much less then $300G's. We've also heard it's a great place to raise the family we want to start.

But, I'm so in love with California!! Has anyone had this debate with themselves, and if so what did you decide? Move and have more financial security, a great home, a nice car without the yearly super high registration cost? Or, stay and do well, live in a smaller home, enjoy Cali's beauty?

I think we are leaning more towards moving. Especially since we have no family here. But it hurts!

Conflicted people please share!

Thanks
We are in San Diego and are moving to Middle Tennessee in October. We have been back twice for a week at a time during two different seasons. We are certain that we will love it. We already have two friendships back there and family in KY two hours away.

What we want, Tennessee has. So it works for our lifestyle. We are looking forward to a slower pace of life, lower cost of living and housing, lakes, open space, moderate temps, four seasons with some smattering of snow in the winter, and the warm hospitality of our fellow tennesseans.

I once struggled with the possibility of leaving the craphole that is San Diego. I made that possibility a reality and went to Houston and have a HUGE smile on my face every day now for moving to a much more vibrant and happening city! The key is to having an OPEN MIND when you do move!

Default Re: To leaving California

My wife and I left Ca 3 years ago and moved to the Blazing inferno(Phoenix) This only lasted 6 months, and we left. I grew up in Lompoc and went to college in Sacramento. I have lived in LA for approximately 10 years and spent 1 year in the rain forest of Eureka California. Eureka is a scary place with horrible weather. We have been looking at Sac town, but the price of housing was a reason we did not move. However, the price is plummeting, so there is a chance we might take the plunge. We have thought of Texas, but we do not want to keep moving. We want to settle down with our 5 1/2 year old son and 6 month old baby boy. My parents live in Plymouth California, so this will probably be our next move. However, nothing is set in stone.

I'd think twice about moving away from California. I did 4 yrs ago to Co. The schools are horrible here. Housing maybe affordable but my gas electric is a fortune. Plus food is more and produce stinks! There are no good restaraunts except if you like mexican food. Weather is ok. If you think your going to ski forget it. It cost a fortune and the freeway I70 is horrible. Its either hot or cold very dry. Its like living in the high desert. Every state has trade offs. Texas prop taxes bad, Ark. bugs humidity etc.Stay in CA

My utilities here in Weld County are not the same as Denver!!!! During summer months my water bill is 125.00+ Everyone here takes pride in lawn care and alot of HOA do not allow burnt lawns! Also my gas bill to heat my home is over 150.00 a month and then lets not forget air condition bill during the summer! Every state has good and bad housing may be cheap here in CO.only when you go east the ski areas are millions . Another thing to remember flying out of Denver Airport is sooooo $$$$ compare there are really no great deals. Alot of friends that are retiring find that hard.
