I am a veteran and want to live as close as possible to the VA hospital and clinics. i was thinking around the rancho cordova area. I am married with no children. we want to live in a diverse neighborhood, but it has to be safe. I don't want to live in an area that floods either. does anyone have any suggestions?

Fondly,

the queen

Rancho Cordova is in Sacramento county. You can do a search on Sacramento Sheriff Crime Map. It lets you put in an address, range, and time frame to view the reported crimes in the area. Might be a good thing for you to look at.

You will get varying opinions on Rancho Cordova in this forum. Anywhere from ghetto/crime ridden to an OK place to live, depending on location. Nothing like a visit here to see for yourself.

What is your radius and price range? That will help people make suggestions. Folsom is close and fairly safe. Diverse in some areas, not so much in others.

I would go with placer county. One of my friends is a vet in his 50's he lives in Auburn CA and he loves it. I recommend Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln, Auburn to everyone. Its a wealthy county wealthy cities and crime level is very very low.

She specified she wanted a place close to the VA hospital and clinics, which I assume would mean close to Rancho Cordova, and someplace diverse--neither of which describes Auburn, CA, although I suppose it is out of the floodplain. A bit north of Rancho Cordova in Arden/Arcade, on the other hand, should be pretty close, or within Rancho itself.

thanks so much for all of your help. our rental price range is up to 1200/mo. 3 br/2 ba with covered patio, garbage disposal, 2 car garage and air! want much? since we are disabled and we need everything on one level, so i'm hoping we can find something. you all have given me something to think about. we are coming down in may or so and will be scouring rancho. we are waiting on something that has to be completed before we can move, so it might be next spring, but we're hoping in sept before the rainy season. love to you all!

Question i'm back

our plans to visit sac were put on hold as my husband had to have surgery. i'm hoping we can visit in sept and i think i'm going to look around the mather area. my husband said he wanted to look a little further south of rancho too, i have a sac city map so we'll be looking in another area also. the adventure continues. we had friends that lived in citrus heights in the 80s and i seem to recall the neighborhood was nice, but darned if i can remember where it was exactly.

hope you are all doing well and keep up the good work of advising potential relocators. it is greatly appreciated.

to be forwarned is to be forearmed!

Fondly,
