Default Moving across country to sacramento from Boston-questions

We are driving from Boston to Sacramento in October and we have some questions to people who have done a similar trip or anybody who might know.

1. Did you set up the hotels beforehand?
2. Is there a way to make a deal with a hotel chain?
3. We have Triple A -- would they be helpful?
4. We would appreciate any other suggestions you may have.

I wouldn't set up hotels along the way. The most important thing is avoiding the big cities like Chicago, Cleveland, Des Moines etc. during their rush hour times. In fact, I wouldn't want to stay near the big cities for overnight hotels because the costs will be higher.

Just enjoy your trip.

I'm more of a night driver myself. You make much better time with just you and the truckers on the road. The downside is that sometimes you have to look a little more for a hotel when you finally need some sleep. Actually, that can work out because if you get a little farther off the interstate the costs are lower and you don't hear the trucks all night long.
