Default Weed Vs Chico?

Hi I am going to be moving to North Cali from UK to join my husband who has just moved to USA. He can work in either Weed or Chico with his plumbing firm. I am leaning toward Weed so far as I love, quiet, good energy and nature.

He thinks Chico would be more to do, but I hear there are lots of college peeps, so guessing there is nightlife I would like to avoid?

I am looking for best nature activities, a decent mall, with cinema, (movies sorry), and good bus system as I don't drive yet, with a great little community and as much spiritual activities or interests going possible.
I also wish to be close to Shasta. Guessing Chico is a long drive?

ANy extra info on these two towns would help us decide...many thanks!

Hanna

Hanna,
Weed and Chico are very different from each other. Weed is extremely tiny, no mall, not much of anything. Basically a place to get gas in your car while driving from California to Oregon on I-5. While Weed is very close to Mt. Shasta, unless you plan on being in the wilderness 24/7 I would not recomment it.

Chico is a college town, but it is not too large. There are restaurants, a cute downtown area and a mall. There are some very nice areas in the suburbs around Chico that would easily take away the college town field. It is mostly surrounded by agriculture and orchards.

Chico is close to outdoor activities, lakes, wilderness and a short drive to the mountains. Truthfully I wouldn't wish living in Weed on anyone.

Just my take. I grew up in Northern Cali. Redding, Chico, and Sacramento. Also lived in Bend Oregon so we drove through Weed all the time visiting relatives.

Hope this helps you. Don't mean to bash to much on Weed but I think you will be disappointed with it.

Like someone else mentioned Weed is a tiny town in the middle of nowhere, Chico has a lot more to offer, including nature, Bidwell park.

Chico. Much more of what you were wanting there. There are even a few British people in the area (lady who owns a baby gear shop there is English). Weed is a wide spot in the road.

I live just over the hill, west, of Weed and have known Weed close to fifty years. Weed is a dieing mill/logging town like most such towns in the NW. It has a community collage, and Mt Shasta, but not much else. I went to collage in Chico in the late 70's and the town was growining fast then and did not slow down. It now has over 100k non students and has taken over most of the old walnut groves. Chico will give your DH a better job, and you if needed. Also there are many more this to do in and around Chico, and Sac InterNational is just a couple hours away.

Look at Paradise, just minutes from Chico and up on the buttes. It will give you small town ambiance and nature within an easy drive of all that Chico has to offer and is minus college students.

Weed and Chico are very different cities. I far prefer Chico, and find it a more substantial environment with a lot more to do in and around the area. Bidwell Park is a very nice asset for Chico, and the downtown area is pretty nice for such a small city. Weed on the other hand, is just too small, run down and isolated for my own taste.
