Due to all police layoffs, I am thinking of applying for Concealed Weapons Permit. Do you think it is real to get it in Sacramento?

In California in general, a concealed carry permit is at the discretion of the local police chief, who can issue permits if the applicant can show good cause. However, what defines "good cause" is totally up to the police chief. There was a time when any police chief's signature was acceptable, and a police chief in the little town of Isleton made extra money rubber-stamping anyone's CCW, but since then a state law passed that required that the police chief issuing the CCW be the chief of the city where you live.

Considering the horrifying cuts, the police chief may be more amenable to a CCW than before, as long as you have a clear criminal record. I'm sure the city might even consider a CCW training/certification program with more of a shall-issue orientation as a way to generate public fees. Or, at least, I hope they would be amenable to the idea...

Apply to Sacramento County Sheriffs Dept. Forget the Sac Police Chief who has no interest in allowing you to exercise your 2nd amendment rights and protecting yourself or family.

This is actually the Calguns thread you want.
