Relocating soon and trying to decide on an area. I love the feel of a Land Park type area but not sure about McClatchy as a high school for my daughter in that it seems so big and appears to get pretty mediocre ratings. Can anyone suggest another neighborhood that has a similar feel but a little better option for a high school? Really trying to stay near Sacramento proper and not be in the suburbs.

Thanks!

Many of the nicer older areas, like Land Park, students often attend the local public school for elementary and then head to private schools for High School. If you want your child to attend a good public high school, you need live in the suburbs: Davis, Roseville, Rocklin, Granite Bay, Folsom, etc.

I don't think you have to go as far as Folsom or Roseville. San Juan has good high schools and I believe that Rio High is at least close to Sac proper. What high school does East Sac feed into? That is a nice area, similar to Land Park and runs right into midtown. The area around Sac State also (which may also be East Sac), don't they attend Rio?

Not sure exactly what area is served by West Campus, but it looks as though if your daughter can gain admission, she might be able to attend from anywhere in the city? I'm making a lot of assumptions, but perhaps it's something to look into.

East Sac feeds to Hiram Johnson, as you go further east of Sac State the area feeds to Rosemont High.

There's also a very good charter high school called The Met in Southside Park, a bit west of Midtown.

If you like the Land Park area (and being near the city in general), I'd hate to see the high school dissuade you. Like you said, probably mediocre rankings, but overall, if it gives your daughter a chance to succeed, it might be a good option. That is, are there plenty of AP classes she could opt/test in to? I think people give too much credence
