Affordable Gym in Sacramento (West Sacramento: apartment, neighborhood, to live)

I am looking for the most affordable gym in the Sacramento Area. I get up early to go to the gym (~5 am) and just need free weights and the typical gym stuff. I know most places are pretty expensive but wanted to get some other people's input.

I will be out there all this week checking out the new area and looking for my apartment starting on October 1st.

It would be better to wait until you find out where you are going to live. Sacramento seems to have fitness centers in almost every neighborhood. Personally, I worked out at the downtown 24 Hour Fitness back when it first opened up. But I quit there because it was always too crowded. Although you probably wouldn't have that problem at 5 AM. I've also worked out at Muscle Systems in West Sacramento, although I wouldn't recommend that one. A lot of thug types used to hang out there.

When you find out where you are going to live just call up the fitness centers in your neighborhood, the better ones will let you test it out and work out for free a couple of times before you join.

I have been very happy with the 24-hr fitness at the intersection of hurley and fulton. It's a newer gym, and is not crowded at 5 am (which is when I workout, as well). I pay $35/mo, no contract. They have a decent free weight selection, as well as Hammer Strength, pool, lots of cardio equip., etc.

Fitness 19 is your best bet. 19 a month, free weights, machines and not much else.. perfect for someone who doesnt need all the classes and stuff
