RELOCATING TO ROSEVILLE,CA ( Foothills)
HI! Im going to be moving from Gardena,ca to Roseville,Ca next month. Can somebody please help me with some advises about the foothills area?
I have two small children, and i already heard about people doing a lot of drugs around the area.
Please help with some advises about schools and good places for kids.
Thanks!

Roseville is not exactly known as a dangerous place Of course, every city has a few places to avoid. What part of Roseville are you thinking of - the older original town or the many new subdivisions? Also, Roseville would only be considered the very lowest step of the foothills. Usually people think of the foothills beginning 10-15 miles further west on I-80.
Include more specific questions for your next post and I'm sure someone can answer your questions.

What about Rocklin? They have a really low crime rate... and it's like 5 minutes from Roseville?
with great schools...

I agree with Rocklin, and if you want even more selection of foothills living you could add the adjacent development in Lincoln called Twelve Bridges. It is massive, and some of it goes into the foothills.

One note about Lincoln... it could be a decent spot to buy, as the market is in horrible shape up there. Tons of houses for sale, and foreclosures to boot. If you plan on this area, be sure and do extensive research on the school system. I have friends up there who paid a mello roos tax which was to be used to build a new school... It was never built, and doesn't look to be.
Does anyone here have any websites that give any information on schools? We have not had any rugrats yet, so while I know Rocklin/Roseville quite well, I have zero clue on what schools are good or bad.

The drugs I think you are thinking of are in Sacramento - and mostly in South Sacramento at that. It's about a 45 drive away from Roseville
You are quite safe in the suburbs of Roseville

GreatSchools.net
This has been a very useful tool for my wife and I, from the perspective of parents as well as (in my wife's case) a teacher currently looking to teach in the area.

Dont worry
Just like everywhere there are good and bad points to any area. If you dont do drugs then chances are you wont be bothered by the drug scene. Roseville is a northern suberb of the Sacramento area. most of the drugs and associated problems are in south sacramento and a few select neighborhoods such as Rio Linda and Del Paso Heights. The schools are good and problems are few in as much as Roseville and its neighbors are fairly affluent and the police stay on top of things. You can go online to the Roseville Police Dept. and ask for or search for crime statistics if you are worried. There are plenty of parks to take the kids to and depending on the ages a lot of youth sports and other programs. Roseville also hosts Denios Farmers Market and Auction also online for info. It is a fun place to go on the weekend and you get some great deals and fresh produce. Roseville is about a 2 hour drive from Reno, another hour to lake tahoe or about 3 hours from the ocean. The one thing you can count on is heavy traffic and slow highways. I tend to use surface streets when possible to avoid the freeways. Good luck and welcome to the area.

In addition to the Great Schools Web site, you can also do research through the CA Dept. of Education Web site. Go to the main site at: California Department of Education. From there you can search either Data Quest (demographic information) or Ed Data (test score data). You will probably find that most, if not all, of the schools around Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln, or Loomis are all good schools.

Sorry! Need to correct my previous post. The foothills really begin further EAST on I-80 around Penryn, Newcastle, Auburn.
