Live in Davis. Easy access to Sac amenities, short drive to the foothills/mountains one way and the delta and the Bay Area the other way. There are plenty of boxing places in Davis and a theather scene both there and in sac. Davis has about 60K people and the school enrolls about 30K; it's definitely a college town but a very safe, unique one.

If you can make it out here for a visit before you finalize a place, drive around both Davis and Sacramento's central city. Pick up a Sacramento News & Review weekly paper (or browse their website) and you can get an idea of fun stuff going on in the area.

Probably Davis would fit the best unless you want to get away from the college atmosphere.

ok, old post but there are many areas that would work. OP, what did you decide and how did it work for you?

I'm curious as to what she decided too. People said live in Davis, but she did state that she wanted cheap and/or affordable living since she is just out of undergrad and will be living alone. If people would have realized she said all of this, they probably wouldn't have told her to go to Davis, where even having a roommate to share rent runs about the same amount as a one bedroom in Sac!
