From the Sac PD site ( City of Sacramento Police Department Crime Mapping), right? Looks pretty scary out of context, doesn't it?
I ran the same report for Meadowview (the area east of the Pocket, across I-5) and the total was almost 5 times as high, with numbers for assaults and home invasions being astronomical compared to Greenhaven.
I then ran the reports for other nice areas in Sacramento... Land Park was just a little bit higher than Greenhaven (mostly car break-ins), Pocket just a little higher than Land Park (mostly car break-ins) and East Sacramento a fair amount higher than Pocket (mostly car break-ins). Man, maybe we should have settled next door in Greenhaven... according to the numbers, it's the safest neighborhood around!
Ultimately it boils down to personal perspective, and what you want out of a neighborhood. And yes, car break-ins and auto theft are a problem in Sacramento, so keep your insurance up. However, as the saying goes, there are lies, damned lies and statistics.

If you live in Pocket/Greenhaven etc, keep that flood insurance up to date. Way more important than car insurance. If you had to let one insurance coverage go, make it the car insurance! About a year ago, Discovery Channel (I believe it was) highlighted levee damage and risk areas showing a map of the Pocket/Greenhaven area and what would be engulfed in water. Very frightening. Yes, yes, levees are being shored up, but can you ever really trust an earthen and stone wall to hold up in a catastrophic event?

Yep, it flooded in this area not to long ago. Another good reason to be careful in this area.

Carmichael v. Pocket Area
The schools are much better in Carmichael. I agree, stay away from S. Sacramento. Some parts of the Pocket Area are nice but they have mainly Asian residents.

Pocket is flood area, Carmichael is not
I would just like to add that Pocket has high flood danger and flood depth close to or over 10 ft. Carmichael is one of the parts of Sacto that is not in the floodplain. Pocket has a very good school, Carmichael has several, most of the open enrollment.

I'm thinking about buying a house around Mira Loma high school, and my daughter will attend that school. Appreciate any advise that you could give.
Thanks and Regards,

Hi,
I still couldn't find the crime rate info on the internet for the area around the Mira Loma high (close to Edison + Eastern Ave). The police reports seemed not updated, and not enough info. If you're living around that area, or know it well, I'd really appreciate your info on its crime rate.
Thanks and Regards,
Duong

I think it is amazing that somebody can call the pocket neighborhood crappy. We have lived there since purchasing our home in 2005. Our kids have great schools and my teenage son can walk to nearby shops where I know he will be safe. It is where most of the most influential people in town live and it is very freindly.Great parks ,safe walking trails where I have never felt unsafe, biking or running. Besides the occaisonal car break I or my neighbors have had no other issues with crime.I would recommend this neighborhood to any one contemplating a move to Sac.

The Pocket Area is like T Street and Woodlake, they are neighborhoods that have held for years despite being pretty close to some fairly crappy neighborhoods. Some people will never consider those neighborhoods. But my own feeling is that if a neighborhood has been fairly stable for 20 or 30 years, that you probably don't need to worry too much about it.
