North Highlands has been dying a slow death since the base closed. Well actually it was kind of fast and now it is more like holding on to the last grasps. I'd get outta dodge if I was you.

NH seems to have always had this image, but the reality, in my experience, isn't quite as bad as the posters say. I have some friends who have lived there for many years and never had any issues. Everyone on their street and from what I've seen of the surrounding streets, they all keep up their properties nicely.

One house there recently sold for about 170,000 and it has a nice pool and the house was completely remodeled.

Don't always take other's over-reactions as truth. If I was going to buy I'd certainly look into the area because you really get a lot for your money.
