Default Wanted to move to Sacramento in a few years...

My girlfriend and I are planning to move from Turlock to Sacramento in a few years. We're looking for a nice/safe area of town to move to. We're not sure if we'll be getting an apartment or if we'll have enough money to put down on a house.

My girlfriend's cousin lives in Sacramento and she told us that the area by the CSU and on La Riviera was safe. Well, I checked the Megan's Law website and there's about a dozen registered sex offenders in that area. My girlfriend won't move there now. I looked at other locations in Sac but it seems the town is blanketed by sex offenders. Any ideas on a good part to live in?

Thanks.

Not moving there because you have kids?

Do you want the kid/family friendly areas - or do you want the young hip areas?

And yes the area by CSUS is safe (La Riviera is not), the area that is nice by the college is River Park, and the American River Park areas, but there is not much in the way of apartments there.

And Sacramento like any city will have more sex offenders then a small town like Turlock, she's going to need to realize that

Ya, i've told her that because it's a big city there's gonna be more of them. I was gonna ask about the area over by the Zoo but then I saw this morning on Sacramento Bee's website that there was a drive-by shooting on Rio Ln....not far from the Zoo.

Are there any other good areas? We plan to get married in a few years and have a kid so we wanted an area that was best to raise one.

The zoo is in Land Park a VERY swanky and nice area of town, not much in apartments but you can rent a duplex or a small home - I love that area. But just like any diverse city - if you go 10 minutes south of it - You are in South Sacramento (95833) and that is where the gangs, and ghetto is - stay away from there.

Are there any safe shopping areas near the Zoo?

The family areas are in the towns outside of Sacramento. You should look into Folsom or Roseville. That's the nice clean yuppie family areas - and the best schools. Sacramento is not known for the greatest school. Davis is quite nice but pricey.

Truly I would suggest renting and then figuring out the best areas after you've been here a while.

Without kids I ALWAYS reccomend Midtown, that's where I lived (as a single woman) and I always felt quite safe. It's also by Mckinley Park and East Sacramento (both very nice areas to rent also)....otherwise you are going to need to live in those suburbs outside of Sac that I mentioned.

midtowngrid.com, Directory for Sacramento, Midtown, Downtown Sacramento, East Sacramento and Old Saccramento Business Directory for shopping, restaurants, hotels, Sacramento's 2nd Saturday Art Walk, Entertainment and more!

Ok, thanks for your input. We were planning on driving up to Sac in October to visit some places. I'll keep looking around.

Land Park is not like suburbs, so when you say shopping - what kind did you want?
