You're avoiding the point.

They're paying 70% of the tax burden while half of the country pays nothing. This is why I've never understood the argument of the rich paying their "fair share" which no one seems to be capable or willing to define.

No, your missing the point. They don't pay higher tax rates than the rest of the country. They simply have much higher incomes in comparison. That's what people mean when they say, "pay their fair share."

They're paying a lower percentage than those in the middle class. It has to do with PERCENTAGE, not total input.

To further the cause, the tax burden (or lack of) to the very wealthy is not near the same as a middle class family.

If we're already in a cash crunch in CA, then raising taxes on the those with the highest incomes is pointless. If more money didn't solve the problem before, why would it be the solution now? Time to reevaluate spending.
Because your going to need additional revenue to pay off your debt and to fund the services that your state currently has. I don't think I missed the point at all.

Your going to have to raise taxes AND cut spending if you want to get anywhere. And in regards of your other statement, increasing taxes on the wealthy is the FASTEST way to generate tax revenue. Seeing (according to your stats) that 70% of all tax revenue comes from the extremely wealthy.

Raising taxes in an economic downturn is a recipe for disaster. You don't do it, EVER. And again, if more money didn't solve our problems before, it isn't going to help now. The tax rates are fine as is, in fact, they're already a bit too high.

To raise taxes now would bring the recovery to a trickle.

Then why are you in an economic crisis? Because you have too much tax revenue coming in?

Also. The percentage of taxes the wealthy pay is NOT a burden on them. In fact, some of the wealthy in this country went all the way to the White House to argue FOR paying more taxes.

Good for them. If they want to pay more, no one is stopping them. Oh, and taxes are not a burden, this would be the first time I've ever heard that before, ever.
