Default Lake of the Pines good place to raise kids?

Hi There,
I live in the SF Bay Area and we are very seriously considering moving to the Auburn area, specifically Lake of the Pines. We have a 6 month old and plan to have another. We want to live on the lake (boating, skiing, etc) and also play golf. The schools are very conveniently located to LOP and from the research I have done are good relative to other California schools. It appears that near half of the LOP residence are retired, but I have also heard that there a good number of families and kids. Is there anyone out there that has lived at LOP and can confirm how family/kid friendly it really is?

Thanks
Heather

Yes, it's a great area for families. They have plenty of parks and activities. The neighborhood pool has a swim team. The schools are very good. We have looked at several homes in LOPs. Lots of professionals live in this area. This is the only neighborhood I would live in Auburn. There are some great deals!
BTW, it's a gated community. They have a guard at the gate and several that drive around.

If you like LOP, you might also consider Pine Mountain Lake in the Groveland area of Tuolumne county. I haven't been to LOP for years but I have a friend who's the GM of the place. My brother works at the golf course in PML and I think it's more laid back than LOP.

It's probably closer to most parts of the bay area than LOP too.

I wouldn't consider Pine Mountain Lake area a good area for families. The schools are miles away. LOP has 3 great schools right outside the gate. The kids can walk to school.
LOP is much nicer.

Default Lake of the Pines

Thanks to both of you for the info. This is very helpful. My husband will be working in Auburn, so the Pine Mountain Lake area would not work as far as location. But I looked at their website and it looks really nice. Thanks again.

I have a friend who lives in LOP and has twins that are 3. She loves it and it appears to be very family friendly. I think if that's where your husband will be working it would be a great place to live.

Default HOA Dues?

I'm assuming LOP residents have HOA dues or some such thing because there are a lot of ammenities in the community. Does anyone know anything about this? What the cost is or how it is assessed?

I am told by my realtor that it's about 1600.00 (roughly) a year and an additional 400.00/yr if you want the golf membership.
