Will definitely keep an eye out for Folsom's next street fair....and NOT the regular "second Saturday" event. Doing some more research, I realize another common denominator between the fairs I'm looking for. The seem to be put together by "corporate" festival planning consultants:

California Bay Area Festivals-MLA Productions-an art & craft festival production company - MLA Productions (Danville, Palo Alto, Half Moon Bay)
Pro Event: Events - TeamPro Events (Larkspur, Marin, Burlingame, Millbrae)
Special Events and Festivals at a Glance - Miramar Events (Mountain View, Menlo Park)

I know this is a weird way to choose events (by the corporate producers!), but they certainly have the "look, feel, and atmosphere" of the experience and shopping we're looking for. It's almost like the specific local venue is secondary, but instead, we're using the event to introduce us to another "suburban downtown", if you will. It's just strange how a separation of 90 miles between the Bay Area and the Sacramento Area would make the choices of available experiences so different, even realizing the differences in the population bases.

Fair enough--the sort of street fairs and events you're likely to find in this region are a lot more localized and individualized rather than offering similar experiences in different cities. There is something to be said for the unique character of some of the region's more specifically thematic events:

KVMR Celtic Festival - Come for the Music, Stay for the Magic

Courtland Pear Fair

Buddhist Church of Sacramento Bazaar

Farm and Tractor Days

I live in Folsom and am unfamiliar with the Folsom Street Fair that has been mentioned. Here is a list of events in our historic district: Folsom Historic District and http://www.visitfolsom.com/events/
The Top of Folsom is a new event this year.

Ohh.....the antique peddler's fair! http://www.tbcashows.info/folsom_9_11.html
Thank you for clarifying. Just as I thought, there is no event called the Folsom Street Fair.
