Maybe they don't want to live in the most "happening" place. One cannot stereotype and say a person "needs" to live either here or there based on his or her occupation. There are other factors to consider when choosing a place to live. She's not asking about alternative locations to live in, she is asking for information about the location they have chosen.

Thanks everyone for the response. We actually are looking for a quiet place to live and Carmichael seemed like that. Did you know the average age is 40 there? So it must have a lot of older folks.
It doesn't seem like we're that far away from midtown or downtown Sacramento. We don't mind driving a little to experience what's happening and hope to visit SF at least once a month. We are going to be in an apartment complex.
Thanks for the shopping tip.

You're welcome. Ride on Sunrise on both sides of Madison, there are over 500 stores and restaurants in the area. This includes a million square foot mall, Sunrise Mall, on the east side of the street. Though the mall is over 30 years old, it has those great large three level department stores like they used to build.
Access to San Francisco is pretty easy, just go west on Fair Oaks to Watt Ave, and then south on Watt to Rt 50 west. Overall, it takes about 2 hours on the weekend (most time consuming is the toll booth for the Bay Bridge).

Well, I'm 40 and live in Carmichael! LOL!! I also have 3 kids and I love the area because it has a wonderful school district. It's affordable and close to midtown (if that's your thing). I'm a transplant from the east coast, as well. Welcome! I think you'll love Carmichael!

Thanks Mama to Three. I think some of the naysayers on this board have been spoiled by too much sunshine.

It is family oriented...if you are into entertainment, Los Angeles area or San Francisco, Berkeley or Oakland is more happenning.......The Sacramento area is geared towards family life.
Carmichael is nice...I like the school system there........My cousin used to live off of Manzanita & Winding way..which have lovely homes.....very green and leafy area.....I liked Carmichael.........very low key......low paying employment though...which sucks!

Hi,
I'm thinking about buying a house around the Mira Loma high school, on Edison. Appreciate any advise that you could give.
Regards,
Duong

I honestly don't know why you'd live anywhere but Carmichael if you're in the Sacramento area. I've lived here all my life. No, it's not the most happening places in the world, but not everyone wants that, and it's only 15-20 minutes away from almost everything. In no time you're in Midtown, Downtown, Roseville, Folsom, Davis. Downtown/Midtown is a great place to work/club/hang out but I could never understand living there. It's expensive and wildly overcrowded and the streets fill with drunk college kids on the weekend (I know - I'm one of them). Folsom/Roseville is incredibly overpriced and fake. It's just full of wannabe-Yuppies that don't have enough money to live in LA or San Diego (I know - I have a lot of family there). Carmichael is a nice little town, affordable, great for familie. While it's not pristine it's far from the ghetto.

No. Edison is one of the dumpier streets in Sacramento, especially towards the Fulton end. It gets bad. I'd imagine you're looking there because it's cheaper - Well, it's cheaper for a reason.

Hi PapaDoc,
Thanks for the advise. How's about the other end of the Edision, toward the Mira Loma high school?

I used to work in the music industry (for the largest music distribution in the world!) and I live in Carmichael. I think it's a fine place to live.
