I posted in April concerning us moving to Sacramento. I accepted the offer and now to find a home. We love the midtown, capital , east Sac area. Where can we find a house to rent with a small yard. We have a Chesapeake bay Retriever who will need a small yard to walk around in.

We will be out in July to find a place to rent:

1. Is there any service that can compile a list of homes for us to look at when we are there?

2, Where should we concentrate our efforts? What areas? We do not want to live in the suburbs but in an area that we can walk to activities. Also it needs to be safe. We live in the suburbs outside of Washington DC so we know all areas have some crime.

Any and all help is appreciated!

Rentals can be hard to find. People have listed a number of rental websites in past discussions, just do a search. You can look up the Sacrament County sheriffs office crime map, it will help you see what type and how much crime has been reported in the area you are considering. Good luck with your move.

Sounds like you're already on the right track--the 95816 ZIP code and thereabouts. The western portion of East Sacramento, the eastern portion of the central city, and south of the Capitol in Southside Park, Land Park or Curtis Park. Not sure of any services that will compile rentals. Just be sure to map-check the listings you see--the name "Midtown" has such cachet that realtors will describe properties a few miles away (and in less savory neighborhoods) as "Midtown bungalows."

I would look for a property manager. You can google "property manager downtown Sacramento" and several (who should be familiar with the area) pop up. I imagine you can yelp them to see how clients feel about them. I don't have any personal recommendations for the area (I live quite a ways away) but hopefully this will give you a start.

P.S. Welcome to Northern Cali...hope you love it as much as I do!
