To katnip kid: Oh yes, the liberal invasion. For a lib, you sound way more reasonable & pleasant that the other person commenting.

And who are the ones wanting to bomb Iran right now? ha ha Oh yeah. Again, nice churchgoing folks. Yet when those who have absolutely had their fill of the Right's hate speech speak up, it is we who are "bloodthirsty". LOL

Once again, reason and facts prevail. But nonetheless, I'll desist. I enjoy more difficult intellectual challenges, which is why I don't usually enjoy debates with Christian Fundamentalists.

Good idea about resting your case, cuz you don't have one. You have only opinion, intolerance and hatred.

That is the type of info folks like me who are gay could use. The political/religous debate, while it has merit, maybe we should take up in another thread somewhere else here on CD, 'cuz' ya know folks both gay and straight who don't live in Sacramento but may be thinkiing about going there could use this info, and that info has great value to them. This forum may be the only place they can get a variety of views from ALL perspectives. That is why I say let us not do anything to get the discussion locked!

Whatever....do you really think I care? I'm not going to waste my time debating & verifying your article links, so your decision is fine with me. Just stop trolling my posts.

I think it has to be admitted that many homosexuals build a way of life around their homosexuality.

It seems likely to me that same-sex attraction, for some, is not chosen. But sexually acting on that attraction is chosen. As a heterosexual, my attraction for some women who are not my wife is not chosen, but if I entertain that attraction and act on it sexually, it is a choice, and I do a great wrong.
Of course acting on that would be wrong, because you would be cheating on your wife. But acting on your attraction to your wife is clearly not wrong. The issue is cheating, not sexual orientation. By the same line of reasoning, acting on attraction towards your same-sex spouse or partner is not wrong, but acting on attractions towards another same-sex person would also be cheating, and therefore, it would also be wrong.

It would be really wrong for a gay person to, say, marry someone of the opposite sex, because (1) they would not be attracted to them, and the other person deserves a proper marriage with the intimacies that belong to it, and (2) sham marriages erode the institution of marriage.

The other alternative is for a gay person to remain celibate their entire lives. But to have no prospect for sharing and building a life with another person, to not be in love and to be there for each other, is not really fair to expect of any human being who has the God-given capacity and desire to love and be loved. It's wrong to suggest someone should be single their entire lives. Of course, it's easy to make that argument if you're not in those shoes, but imagine what a lonely life that would be and if you would want your child devoid of that stability.

This is statistically impossible. Even in a "gay-friendly" neighborhood, the percentage of gay people would be, at most, ten percent, and 90 percent of residents would be straight. So how could the neighborhood be anti-straight? Are you saying it is full of self-hating heterosexuals? People don't usually put themselves down, so this makes no sense.

As a straight person, even when I am in the Castro, I have never felt any hostility due to the fact that I am straight.

This person, like most of the Christian Right, just cannot accept the fact that gays have a right to exist. So the existence of any gay person, no matter how polite or deferential they are, is taken as an affront to their own presence as a heterosexual.

Suffice to say, his statement that Midtown is hostile to heterosexuals is completely absurd as the vast majority of individuals there are heterosexuals.
