Default Where to relocate - Folsom vs Hillsboro, OR

We have 2 relocation options Folsom or Hillsboro, OR.
Was wondering what are pros and cons of every location? (cost of living, crime, education, weather and so on)

As per city comparisson websites they are pretty similar.

Too difficult to answer unless you have seen both areas, and have established your priorities. For something as critical as this, I probably would go out and take a personal tour myself. We did that in considering Sacramento, Minneapolis, Providence etc, in making our decision.

I wouldn't trust a web site forum for this type of comparison, no matter how well meaning the posters. We all bring prejudice to the discussion, and it might not meld well with your personal and family priorities.

I can't tell you much about the Oregon site. I live in Folsom and it is a very nice community with great schools and abundant recreational activities. High technology/suburbia meets 1850's Gold Rush charm. Low crime. Cost of living here is reasonable except for housing prices. Home prices have come down the last few years though. A quality four bedroom home is probably somewhere in the 425k to 500k range depending on neighborhood.

I would think both locations would be nice. It might come down to the weather and how you and your family can handle the persistent rain and cloudiness up in Oregon. We get rain and clouds in our winter months but it doesn't linger for days and weeks like farther north in Oregon.

I've lived in many places and I would be hard pressed to find a better overall climate than what we have here in the Sacramento area. Sure, we get some hot spells in the summer, but on balance, the year round climate is first rate.

I prefer Hillsboro, OR myself. I like the weather better, green all year long, short drive to the ocean, etc. Folsom is great too, good schools, warmer climate, etc. I would suggest visiting both places. The weather alone is completely different. If you don't like alot of rain, then Hillsboro isn't for you. The areas outside Portland are getting much busier, the traffic in Portland is just as bad as downtown Sac, if not worse. So if your commuting to Portland, it won't be much different then commuting to Downtown Sac.
