Eh, it's not so bad if you're in a neighborhood with some shade--dry heat plus shade drops the felt temperature by 20 degrees if there is any sort of wind. And them warm summer nights are sweet...after the hot blast we got this weekend, I saw a whole lot of people out having dinner tonight, unusual considering Monday is usually the night Midtown restaurants are closed. Those that weren't closed, especially those with patios, had all the business they could handle tonight! The Delta breeze kicked in and it's downright nice outside right now--enough that I think the folks still out on the patios probably wish they had brought a sweater.

It's very nice up here in Folsom tonight. My house was cool when I came home, and I'm getting a nice breeze with the windows open (and I live on the essentially treeless west-facing side of Carpenter Hill). Yay!!

We eat outside almost every night during the summer, and hang out in the back until late evening. I can see coming from SF that it might seem hot here. But I'm always cold there so I prefer this weather. I guess it's what you are used to.

I may have been one of those people you saw eating on a Midtown restaurant patio. What a beautiful night. And I DID remember to bring a sweater.

Moving from Maine to Midtown just a couple weeks ago, I was seriously worried about how I would adjust to the heat. But so far most of the mornings and evenings have been perfectly pleasant. So so so much better than those sticky Midwestern summers with little nighttime relief. Plus with all the trees in this neighborhood, you're almost always walking in the shade.

Man, it's so COLD in SF :-P

For a liberal city with great schools and it's own unique vibe, very clean and safe, you may consider Davis.

Yeah I dont get why SF people are always bashing down Sac because of the hot summer days.

SF is too cold for a lot of people. It's always foggy and cold there most of the time, and even when it is sunny during the day, its usually cold at night.

Some people really prefer sunny and warm weather. Also the summer nights here are awesome.

The delta breezes decidedly make Sacramento bearable, even pleasant, during the evening and night. They're a welcome change from the heat of the day. The first lesson you learn is to walk on the shaded side of the street when you're out and about. I think they call that "adjustment" and "acclimation." Not always real comfortasble during the day but most evenings make up for it nicely.

I think I could get used to this weather pattern, especially if it cools off enough in the evening to be comfortable both inside and outside. Because it IS cold in SF. Don't get me wrong, I love this city, but there are enough flaws, the weather being a big one, to make me question the cost of living here. There's something unsettling about paying huge gobs of rent and then bundling up to go outside in July while the rest of the country is in shorts.

prettyvacant: re Davis, that is a place i've thought about. I used to love college towns but now find them rather irritating, but i'm open to checking it out.

Bring a bike! or two...Davis has excellent public schools. Real estate is pricey but coming from SF it may seem like a bargain. The evenings cool down enough in Sacramento to make most summer evenings enjoyable but anyone know if that's the case with Davis? (I would think it does cool down but dont honestly know).

You're paying the huge gobs of rent to go outside in January with a light coat when 50% of the country is shovelling snow.

San Francisco is not cold. I have not turned on the heat in my SF condo since 2009. Cold is if your car breaks down on a roadtrip, you die. Something around -20F with a windchill of -70F. Try Minnesota in January to find out the meaning of cold.
