Default Flying into Sac Int from LAX with hunting gear

Hi all, im an aussie soon to be flying into LAX from Melbourne Australia and then jumping on a domestic out to Sac Int airport, ive a couple of questions regarding my luggage.

Im coming in with two compound bows (archery), broadheads (hunting heads), 3 hunting knives and other of hiking/survival equipment, do i need a license in the US for a compound bow, will any of these things be of a concern if they are in my luggage (obviously none of them will be carried on board)?

I am going to declare everything and the cases will be adequately locked, just wondering if there's any specific things i should know, thanks in advance

No, you don't need a license for a bow or knife in the US. You may need a license for that which you may be hunting with this bow once you're here.

What airline are you arriving at and connecting to? Normally you'd be able to hand off your checked bags at a transfer desk just outside Customs at LAX, but if you're switching to Southwest Airlines, which doesn't have interline agreements for bag transfer, you'll have to physically carry you bags to the Southwest terminal (there is a free shuttle bus between terminals, traveling counter-clockwise). You mention declaring them, presumably on your Customs form. I'd probably tell the folks at the check-in desk about your weapons, emphasizing you have permits. You may even phone the airline(s) ahead of time to ask if there'd be any complications (I doubt there would be). Sometimes there are regs regarding importation of certain weapons, though I believe that usually concerns guns.
