I have been a member of the forum for only a short time but enjoy the postings. Thank you.

I am making a leap of faith and moving to the Sacramento area by the end of this year. I am driving across the country from Michigan. There are NO jobs here.
I have a few questions and would appreciate any and all feedback.
1. I have one prospect regarding a job, but nothing firm yet. I plan to sign up with any and all temp agencies...any suggestions? I have a BAS in computers and have excellent customer service skills.
2. I will bring minimum of 5k with me to find a small apartment. I will have an automobile. Where can I find a small, cheap, clean, safe apt? Is that asking for too much?

This is the big question...I just turned 50. Will my age inhibit me from finding a good job? I look 42 or 43. I want to know what I am up against.

Thank you for all the comments I have read so far...

I can only address the apartment issue. You can find safe clean apartments in large complexes for around $700 per month for a 1 bedroom. You may be able to do better in a smaller apartment building having four-sixteen apartments. We have loads of them in Sacramento.

Default You have to have faith

The market here is good for jobs but poor for real estate. I am a licensed real estate agent and haven't found any business. I too am looking to move out on my own soon. I am 35 and currently live with 3 other women. It is very crowded. I also go to school part time for my Master's in Psychology. I am looking to move out hopefully before this year is over. It is just very difficult because I am on a fixed income. I wish you the best of luck in your job search.

Monique Leach
P.S. I am also a Christian so faith means everything to me.

Default Leap of Faith

Well Monique Leach, maybe by the time I reach Sacramento we can hook-up and share an apt.

Thank you for your input.

Default I work in Govt and we hire all the time

checkout Welcome to the California State Personnel Board (http://www.spb.ca.gov/index.htm - broken link) and go to the exam link. It details the various positions in CA Govt that we are testing for. It updates as exams are announced.

Good luck
