Well hello, ... just discovered this very informative website ... and just as recently, have been spending time on the internet, studying up on a place called "Fall River Mills".

I think the closest I've ever been is driving north out of Lassen V.N.P. .. heading up through Bieber then onto Lava Beds some years ago ... so I didn't actually get through F.R.M.

Perusing through the real estate postings at land ; ranch; etc., .. looks just like the place I've always dreamed of settling down into.

Lassen holds a very special place in mine and my wife's hearts ... it was the place we initially began to explore hiking and camping together ... so we've been back many times over the last 20+ years.

Am very interested in visiting F.R.M. in the near future ... drive up from Santa Rosa ... my guess is a 5-6 hour drive at most?

There's a nice website posted by the folks there ... answers most questions ...

Being a passionate enthusiast of outdoor rec', ... camping; backpacking; hiking; also mountain/rock climbing, I see quite a few destinations in the area that attract me; though there's limited info on this place called "Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park".

Well, nothing an extended visit to the area can't address ...

Are any of the bodies of water up there [ever] swimmable?

That lake at Ahjumawi? ...
Fall River iteslf?
That large reservoir north of Fall River (Whitehorse, I think it's called?)

Thanks!

Michael

There a a beautiful state park called Burney Falls about 10 to 15 minutes from Fall River. The Falls are wonderful. The lake is called Lake Brittan. Wonderful lake!!! You can swim, waterski, jet ski, etc..... I spent many years camping and waterskiing in this lake. The whole area is very very nice. I just got back from Fall River.

I used to live and work in Redding and went up to the Intermountain area (Burney, Fall River Mills) often. Good golf course in town, and there seemed to be a lot of support for the schools. Nice mix of homes, and a couple of decent restaurants. Yes, it's miles from civilization, and the climate can be a little severe (hot and cold, literally).

Default Living in Paradise

Just saw your posts. I grew up in San Jose and LOVE living up in the Intermountain Area. Moved here almost 7 years ago. It really is a lovely community. Strong local support for schools, hospital and tourism- which is a main support for community. I went in to real estate when I moved up here and have been glad to witness the strong community support for second homers / vacationers / outdoor enthusiasts, as well as local business.
It is still a small town where you wave at most folks you drive past. Burney is 50 miles from Redding- feels like a million miles away from hustle and bustle.

Lots of foreclosures/ investment opps in Burney, while Fall River valley is much more stable with home prices dropping some, but not drastically. Deals to be had as winter approaches. Can be difficult to make a living here if you dont have home based biz - always need good tradesman.

Black bear- Come visit us- I can make it door to door, San Carlos to McArthur in 5 hours. Should be much faster to Santa Rosa.

Default Vacation in Northern CA

The correct name is Spinner Fall Lodge- 530.336.5300 It's right on the Fall River with restaurant and full bar capability. Rooms are a bit small and can be expensive. IT is also a seasonal operation- check availability. Another option is Burney Guest Ranch 530.335.4087 or the Fall River Hotel 530.336.5550. All have websites and would be good options, thought the lodge or ranch beat the hotel as far as ambience. Good Luck and please email again if you have further questions about the area.

We offer boat rentals too. Our site is Home. We are located directly on the Fall River and have primitive campsites (no water) but there is a porta potty as well as 1 r/v space. Some people who visit ahjumawi state park use our boats to get there.

Hi Acassity,

Thank you for the information posted. I got a job offer in Burney area and I am considering moving from Orange County to Burney around late July or early August, 2011. I'd like to find a nice place to live for at least one year and I prefert it is not too far from my work. It can be a rental apartment or homestay of the local residents. However, I could't get much options by searching through neither Craigilsit nor Google. Most rental/housing options are located in Redding which is about one hour driving to work. Could you please give me some ideas about where to post my needs, where to see the others' postings about finding a room mate, etc. Do you by any chance know that any place I can look at?

Thank you very much for your time and attention.
