Davis-Sacramento Drive Time
My husband and I are thinking of moving to Davis, for a job opportunity in Sacramento. Realistically with traffic, how long does it take to get from Davis to Sacramento with traffic during rush hour? I am from SF, and have been in the traffic there on weekends on the way up to tahoe, but am curious about mid-week traffic.
Thanks!

I've never commuted from Davis to Sac, but I'm sure it can't be more than 25 minutes. I drive from Elk Grove to Sac in about 30 minutes top, with traffic.

With no traffic I'd say 20 minutes to Downtown Sac - BUT BUT BUT - Where in Sacramento is the question - do you know what part of Sac this new job is? That will greatly determine how long the commute is.

Yup, the location of the job is the determining factor. Davis to Sac via 80 East is usually pretty good until you hit Truxel.
My wife commutes from Roseville to Davis, but we've discovered an alternate route that takes her through country roads and Woodland to get to Davis, that is much more reliable, and even a little quicker, than 80 even on a good day.

Hi,
The drive would be into capital mall.
Does anyone know the commute time from El Dorado Hills to Capital Mall area in Sacramento?
Thanks!

If that's the case, maybe consider Davis <-> Sac via Amtrak? The Amtrak station is about 4 blocks away from Capitol Mall. $113 for a one month ticket, unlimited rides. Davis and Sac are adjacent stops, 15 minutes from each other.
El Dorado Hills to Sac via 50? Bad.
I'd stick with Davis, myself. College town, progressive, more diverse.

I do midtown (15th and Q) SAC to U.C. Davis every day.
It takes 18 minutes driving at 60 mph.
From what I see commuting in the other direction should be
no worse. The only sticky bits of traffic I see are getting onto/off
80 onto/off 5.

To Capital Mall - is Downtown - without traffic it should be a BREEZE
BUT from El Dorado Hills it will be a nightmare - could take anywhere from 60 minutes to 90 minutes on an average day (more if it really sucks)

We get from Vacaville to UCD Medical Center in 40 minutes; Davis is about halfway... Unless I-80 is backed up, it doesn't take long to get into Sacramento.

I used to commute from South Davis, near an I-80 interchange in the middle of town, to 13th and R in midtown Sac, and it took about 17-18 minutes door-to-door. Traffic is heavy, but goes faster than the speed limit. The only slow time is Friday afternoons coming home; there is sometimes a bad slowdown where I-80 merges with 50 going west; lots of people going to the Bay Area for the weekend, I guess. Even then, my worst commute time was about a half-hour. I would do the commute again in a heartbeat if I needed a job and found one out there.
