Anyone here ever lived in Oroville or in that area before, what do you think of the town, night life, outdoor life, etc.

I have been to the town once and found it a small clean town but rather slow at night, but the 2 casino's gave it some night life and that lake sure is beautiful and large..

Would you consider living there or not..

Meth. Nice lake. I wouldn't prefer to raise kids there. If I liked to fish/boat/hike and needed low housing prices, it would be okay, I do think that it is pretty and has lovely recreation options nearby. I would probably choose Redding over Oroville, though, since I feel that they are comparable. If I was more concerned about night life or school districts I would choose Chico. If I was also concerned about job market I would choose Sacramento.

I own a home there and have lived here since 2008. Its generally fine. Not what you'd call sophisticated or a thrill-a-minute, but a decent place to live. The casinos do have named entertainment on a somewhat regular basis (although not as often as before the economic downturn), but other than that the night life here is pretty wanting and most people head to Chico for a night out. It is only 22 miles from my house and I can be there in less than a half hour. For that relatively short drive I saved about 40% on the price of my house. Fair trade off in my opinion.

The schools are average for the Sacramento Valley. Nothing stellar, but the kids who come from motivated homes do well. I've had a number of nieces and nephews who've gone through them and their progress ranged from poor to excellent within the same school. I guess that means the tools are there for the hardworking student.

The area around Oroville is pretty. The lake of course is nice and very close to town and the east foothills (where as many people live as in the city limits) is attractive and a good place to live. The Feather River going through town is a plus too. There are several river front parks and I'm always seeing people in inner tubes floating down it in the summer.

The people are friendly and for the most part good folks, but there are a large amount of low-class or "trashy" types living in the area. The Meth problem has for the most part come and gone in the area. The hardcore tweakers in Oroville either have reformed, died or ended up in prison. It was much more of an issue in the 90s.

I've lived in places I've like better. Boredom is the biggest drawback for me, but that's a problem in any small town.

I am glad to hear that the meth problem has decreased since the 90's. Butte County jail must be a charming place to be.
