Default San Diego to Chico

My girlfriend and I currently live in San Diego (I'm going to SDSU) and are thinking of moving to Chico (I would be going to Chico State, my grielfriend to Butte College). We are pretty sick of how overpriced and crowded SD is and are looking for a change. Also I'm an Engineering student at SDSU and feel that the program is really lacking... hopefully Chico State will be better.
My questions are: What are the nice areas in Chico to live? Possibly inbetween Chico State and Butte college. For the people that live in or have lived in Chico, would you recommend it? Any other advice about moving into the area?
Your thoughts and comments are appreciated.
Thanks!

I went to Chico State and would move back instantly if there were jobs. Basically all of Chico is fine except Chapmantown. We lived in Sheridan Square Apts. on the East side of Chico. It was not near the party scene, which was good. If you live near campus, especially on the West and South side, you'll experience a lot of loud and crazy neighbors. Basically you can get around on bike or a short drive to campus, so I'd look for places at least 1 mile away. Hignell and Hignell own basically all of the apartments. If you have any question, just pm me.

Chico's awesome. Fun town. Very much a small town atmosphere...totally different than san diego. If that's what you're looking for then it'd be perfect.

I recommend living close to Chico State in the college neighborhoods, rather than somewhere in between Chico and Butte. Living there can be louder definitely (but really depends on where..) but will be much more fun, much easier to meet people and have things to do, and just convenient to all the good stuff in Chico. I'd take a scouting trip and check out the different areas to see what you like best. But to give you a start... looking at the map, the student areas would be the blocks south of the campus (the best imo, also where most frat/sor houses are), some of the areas to the west of campus and the railroad tracks (especially along Nord ave.), and then some of the areas on the north side of campus. To the east is the park, downtown areas, and more family neighborhoods.

Hope that helps, any specific questions just ask!

Tim
