We are moving to Sacramento in a month and have a daughter who will be a Junior in High School. We will be working in the Arden-Arcade area. We like living out in the burbs and are very active outdoorsy type people.

Can anyone suggest a low-crime, quiet neighborhood with a good high school and a less than 20 min commute to the Arden-Arcade area?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Among Placer, El Dorado, and Sacramento County the public high schools with the highest average SAT scores are in....Sacramento County. Mira Loma, Rio Americano, and Folsom in that order.

Carmichael is very close, and has some wonderful neighborhoods. Very quiet for the most part, but there are some bad areas there...just gotta check it out for yourself.

Mira Loma is one of the best and is close to Carmichael.

You should look at the Great Schools website.

Pretty much spot on. The public high schools within the City of Sacramento aren't very good with maybe the exception of the charter... if you want good schools within the City you'll have to go private.

Mira Loma achieved that rating because they had a policy of dumping any student that wasn't "on track" to keep their rating high. And yes, I know that--I got to sit through an ugly meeting explaining why a 15-year-old would no longer be allowed to attend school the day he turned 16 because he was getting C's and D's and didn't meet their standards.

Are they still doing that?
