I just moved to Sacramento and looking into a few jobs the below listed locations. Can someone tell me what the typical commutes are like in the mornings and afternoons? Ideally, i'd like to drive no more than 30 minutes to work each morning. Is driving out of Sacramento always going to be a reverse commute?

potential morning commute:
Sacramento (pocket area, off Hwy 5) to either ... 1) Rocklin, 2) Vacaville, 3) Dixon/Davis, 4) Elk Grove

What's the typical afternoon return commute like from these places back into Sacramento? Lots of stop and go? Slow?

Thank you!

In general, yes, the reverse commute will work in your favor. But some caveats:
1. Rocklin: The Pocket-Natomas part of your trip will be busy in the AM, depending upon your leave time. Vice versa for PM. 30-45 mins.
2. Vacaville: The Pocket-Downtown part of your trip will be busy in the AM, depending upon your leave time. Vice Versa for PM. Past Dixon you start feeling the impact of Bay Area commuters and sometimes the causeway stretch can back up in both directions from Dixon/Davis people coming in AND going out. 45 mins-1 HOUR. Worse on Fridays because of people leaving early for Reno/Tahoe.
3. Dixon/Davis: The Pocket-Downtown part of your trip will be busy in the AM, depending upon your leave time. Sometimes the causeway stretch can back up in both directions from Dixon/Davis people coming in AND going out. 30-45 mins. Can be worse on Fridays because of people leaving early for Reno/Tahoe.
4. Elk Grove: A snap. 15 mins.

I can only really comment on the Vacaville-Sac commute.

If you are driving through Vacaville via Peabody Road, you may hit some morning traffic if you do not leave prior to 7am. My old job in Sac was at UC Davis Medical Center, and I was due in at 8am, so I made sure to leave my house by at least 645. Generally, it was a smooth ride to Stockton Blvd, but sometimes once you hit the part of I-80 that is in between downtown Sac and Sac City College, it can get extremely congested. There is a lot of incoming and outgoing traffic due to the many off-ramps in that pocket.

I will co-sign on the previous poster, it can be a lot worse on Fridays.
