Thank you for adding Redding, I think that's one of the more interesting and appropriate comparisons to Sacramento.

65 at 7:30 am isn't bad at all! At the same time this morning, my San Diego neighborhood is only 59, even while it's a full 68 downtown near the water. Suddenly switched to summer with water temps spiking early in the season to the high 60s. Amazing how much cooler and drier the air is a bit inland. I prefer the cool nights in my neck of the woods, which is the same reason I love Sacramento Summers.

That makes all the difference. I grew up in a tract home built in the 70s in Walnut Creek that was so badly insulated that we ran the AC all day, every day, all summer long. Whenever we had a power outage, the temperature inside the house would get close to 90° within an hour. But in the winter, we had the opposite problem, struggling to keep the house at 66 or 68 degrees. My parents later built their own house not far from the original one, and they put in such good insulation that they really only run the AC when it's in triple digits.

I don't recall the source but I recently read that the Sacramento area averages about 285 days of sunshine a year, which is fabulous.

How easy is it to take advantage of all that sunlight by installing solar panels, both cost-wise and regulation-wise?

Does state and local government encourage solar installation or discourage like some states do?

Are there programs that help subsidize the cost?

The weather nerd in me tracked the following about Sacramento late Spring/early Summer weather:

June 15, 2018 - Sacramento - Full Sunshine, Breezy, Good Air quality, fantastic weather, dew points in the very very comfortable range all 24 hours. STRONG COOL BAY-DELTA BREEZES.

7:30 am - 58F
10:30 am - 72F

3:00 pm - 83F - low humidity, very comfortable dew point
5:00 pm - 79F

10:00 pm - 59F

Next morning - 6:30 am - 54F

San Francisco ranged from 48F to 53F all day yesterday, the same temps as their winter weather.

Las Vegas never dropped below 89F and stayed in the 90's to 100 the entire 24 hr period.

Sacramento started very cool 58F warmed up steady to 83F max, late afternoon very comfortable, later all waking night hours temps were in 70's and 60's, down to 59F, late night and sleeping hours, temps stayed in the 50's, absolutely no need for a/c. Cool Strong Bay-Delta Breezes.

You do realize that this is unseasonably cool weather for Sacramento, don't you?

Sacramento - June - Average High 88F, Average Low 59.

No this is normal. You are not from the NorCal and the Sacramento Valley. You have not lived here long enough to know this is pretty normal. We just don't talk about it or hype it, as we do when we have steady high temps in the 90's. June usually brings us an average of 10-15 days of cool spring weather, another 10 days of warm weather, and 5 days of temps in the mid to high 90's, maybe one or 1 or 2 days reaching 100F. But almost always, temps in the high 90's or even 100 still bring us lows in the upper 50's and low 60's.

It's the strong coastal cool/cold marine air pushing deeply into the Sacramento Valley. It's called June Gloom on the California Coast. We call it the Delta Breeze. It's no joke, the Delta Breeze can be very cooling and quite powerful as a natural air-conditioner.

Notice how we only hype hot weather, but never hype our really cool summer days. For example, its been really nice, cool for 7 days, and it is forecast to stay that way for another 4-6-days. But all we can think about is it got toasty for 2 days, over a week ago, and all we can think about is how it might reach 100F in the next 6 days.

Those mid to high 90's coupled with days like the last 7 days (upper 70's, low 80's) bring the average down to a high of 88F. Regarding low temps, Days in the low 60's coupled with days in the low 50's give you an average low of 59F.

An average high of 88F means that you can have days in the mid to high 90's but you can also have days in the upper 70's to low 80's. We never talk about those days that are like today even when they carry on for 7 days or more.

Hey, tstieber, Your Welcome!, regarding your post about Redding.

Considering the average high temperature in San Francisco in January is 57, it's actually cooler than normal even for winter.!

Sacramento sounds heavenly at those temps, as my SD neighborhood suddenly dropped from the 70s and 80s back to 65f and overcast, going on our third day of that. Been seeing 9 PM temps of only 59f.

California just gets these fluctuations in summer, where it's hot for a few days, then mild for a few days. It's nice like that.

This thread is like Bruce Willis in "Die Hard". Very hard to kill. It has survived several regime changes in North Korea and even a couple of natural disasters. Through it all, here it stands. Time may have changed it a bit, but it has evolved through natural selection to become what it is today. But I digress.

In all seriousness the weather has been great this past week. Sac is an amazing place when we get mid-80's weather to enjoy whilst traversing through the thick forest that is Sacramento. Or I guess if you're one of our many lovely hipsters, you do so by riding a bike.

Sacramento does have such a beautiful urban Forest. Considering that almost all of those trees are non-native species that have been planted by people over the decades, it's nice to see that humans can get some things right.
