It's cold everywhere this Saturday morning.
They're saying this chilly weather is going to last a while, too

Sacramento - 50F at the time of Sea Lion Sighting

Its pretty common to have California Sea Lions swim from the ocean and up the Sacramento River for 100+ miles up to Old Sacramento, but today we saw a Sea Lion swimming up the American River 10 miles east of downtownSacramento!! That is the furtherest Inland and northeast I've seen the adorable f*ckers swim away from the Ocean.

We were walking our dogs on a bluff overlooking the American River about half way from downtown Sac to Folsom and tracked the Sea Lion for 1/8 mile diving, swimming, and up back up. Pretty Cool, the River is high and moving fast. He was heading northeast to Folsom. He had a fish in his mouth :-)

Was the cold/wind bad for you today? Some parts of sac got bombarded with 30+ mph gusts today. Eek.

Light wind and sunshine for us in Fresno.
Afternoons have been awesome but nights have been too chilly for me. This chill can't end soon enough.

Afternoon highs

Yup was windy today more than anything else. Just now the rain really started pounding pretty hard tho.

But I was good- plenty of waterproof rain gear to stay dry and I was not out long today in it. Will see if we get a dry spell tomorrow or not.

Chim, I'm not sure why you keep linking to a site with absolutely accurate data but then show incorrect data in your post? Your numbers are going backwards from the last one a week ago! Here are the numbers from your link:

Sacramento airport 10.34
Sacramento CSUS 11.67
San Diego airport 9.11
Ramona 11.16

We are neck-and-neck with you, which is pretty remarkable! Let's celebrate it for what it is.

Sorry but 10-15 degrees colder temps to me is noticed and uncomfortable. Thought I would share some data points so we can put this fact to rest.
That's fine, and I believe those forecasts, and I agree that' 10 to 15 degree differences are very noticeable, but...

The San Diego forecast you're showing is for the airport, which is a coastal location. Sacramento is an inland city. My whole point is that inland San Diego is not that different from Inland Sacramento or Inland East Bay, and that means that many people in the metro area experience temperatures not that dissimilar to Sacramento, even if Lindbergh Field is milder on the bay. Coastal locations are always milder. Consider that San Francisco has not had a freezing temperature in nearly thirty years and almost never drops below 40 in winter, whereas Sacramento, as well as inland San Diego, get some frost every winter.

Case in point: we left downtown at 7 p.m. last night, and it was 60° getting on the 163. At 7 pm! My high temperature all day was only 55! 15 minutes later, getting off at Miramar Road, it was 46 -- 14 degrees colder. Two nights ago, a friend of ours came over, also from downtown, and the first thing he said was how cold it was in our part of town. I'm still in the city of San Diego, but my weather forecast for today is 55/33 -- not much different from yours. So just remember that not everybody in San Diego lives along the coast. Lots of people live inland, where especially the nights in winter average in the upper 30s. Some people in SoCal enjoy milder weather, but many do not -- at least in the unusually cold and rainy winters like this year.

The other thing is that taking a sample of 5 days is just a sample. The long-term, 30 year averages I posted a few days ago are extremely telling about the overall climate in Sacramento, which is much sunnier than San Diego on the whole, and even warmer on the whole, although Winters average cooler and Summers average hotter.

Lastly, 55 to 60 degrees in San Diego at the moment may be warmer than Sacramento at the moment, but it still dispels the myth that it's always "warm" here. In fact, the west coast is so far below average that even San Diego's temperatures right now are colder than Sacramento's average. Sacramento is experiencing closer to Seattle's average, and Seattle is off the charts sub-freezing and snowed in.

The bottom line is that I'm not disagreeing with the factual reality that Lindbergh Field is milder than Sacramento, but you also can't disagree with the factual reality that other parts of San Diego city and county are legitimately almost as cold as Sacramento this year, that we've had just as many rainy days as you guys have, and that we have barely had any afternoons above the 50s in weeks. It's been so unusual that it's been a common topic of conversation around town. Showing data for Lindbergh Field is not really pertinent to the point I was making. If that microclimate is much milder than most of the county, and I'm sure it is, then that's great for the people living in that part of town, but it doesn't warm things up for the rest of us. It's kind of annoying to be in sweaters and jackets everyday, running the heater every morning, and having someone 500 miles away tell me how warm it is when it's not.

If you are reminiscing about last year's unreasonably dry winter in San Diego, then yes, it was much warmer than this year. It looks like the first eight days of February were between 64 and 81 degrees. At the same time, the temperatures in Sacramento were also warm --between 68 and 74 degrees. The West Coast goes in lockstep.
