HOV lanes and carpool lanes are one and the same.

HOT lane = high occupancy toll lane. Since you have to pay to use the lane, they are much more strongly enforced. They supposedly work better, but I haven't studied them in any detail and we don't have any around here.

Anyone here ever been pulled over for using the carpool lane without enough passengers? Or know anyone who has? Hard to tell if it ever really happens.

I took the HOV lane from EG to Sac for a year. Finally got caught, forgot to pay the fine on time, and ended up owing $570! That comes out to $47.50 per month for use of the carpool lane.

If you are looking for a shorter commute you might consider Arden Park, Willhaggen, Sierra Oaks instead. Still very strong schools, you are close to bike trails and the commute is about half as long to downtown.

It sounds like you need to figure out how to carpool!

Its often late, and not reliable. Plus its the main source of transportation for gang bangers in Sacramento, security is a joke... its very unsafe to ride except during very narrow commuter hours. If you like seeing people in baggy pants with guns jammed in them (and I've seen people carrying heat several times) then go for it. I won't ride it.

And we all know why Folsom limits the evening hours! The running joke is to keep the rift-raft out. We don't want no homeless, or ghetto thugs riding the rails into Folsom for the night! Lol

Or commuters who work past 7 PM, or Sacramento residents visiting your restaurants for dinner, or swing shift workers, or anyone who could afford a car but prefers not to...

This rumor was pre-existing to my arrival. I just love to tease about it. Many of us do. Folsomites know it's in the plans to expand hours, but when it actually happens...no one knows...
