I'm a 24 yr old motorcycle mechanic student in florida who is considering moving out to the lake tahoe area after i am finished with school. i'm considering the area because i love the mountains, i love lakes and i love the snow. it just seems i can do everything i love there all year round (fishing, swimming, snowboarding, ride dirt bikes/snowmobiles) i was wondering if anyone could tell me more about the area: what is it like living there year round? is there a demand for snowmobile/atv repair in the winter and motorcycles in the summer? what are the best towns to live in on preferably the california side? Any help would be greatly appreciated

It's been a long time since I lived there, so I'm not sure if it's still the same. I had a love/hate relationship with it. I loved the mountains and the beauty, and all the outdoor activity.

I hated the influx of tourists during ski season and summer. As with any major tourist area, it gets frustrating to live your daily life when traffic/crowds are horrendous. And it always appeared that many people seemed to leave their manners on vacation too. I had to plan to just stay home on days I knew were really bad traffic days, ie ski weekends and holidays. Summer weekends weren't as bad.

I lived in Truckee, Tahoe City and Westshore about 8 miles past Tahoe City. I liked Westshore the best, it's quieter. I hated South Shore, I'm not into gambling and it just didn't feel the same as North Shore. Anywhere on the North Shore is pretty nice. I had a boat, I loved to hike, although I didn't ski.

The winters can be pretty brutal when you get heavy snow, but you get used to it.

On the whole, it is a great place to live.
