Officially NO, and we are proud of that! Sacramento has it's own thing going. But we are very close to each other and the Bay Area has a big influence on us, and visa versa, but they would never admit to that.

The biggest connection would be through friends and family and colleges, lots of Bay Area people attend SACRAMENTO STATE, UC DAVIS, and McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento.

Sacramento being the Capitol and the Bay Area being a political powerhouse keeps the two areas connected.

All the bigger High Tech firms in the Sacramento Area are from the Silicon Valley, except for a few smaller firms and start-ups.

Major league baseball and football is the other connection.

Sacramento has it's own Basketball(NBA) team.

Sacramento is in the Central Valley. A physical map will do a good job at showing you the difference.

Calling Sacramento part of the Bay Area is like calling Philadelphia a suburb of NYC

Sacramento is not the Bay Area, and that's a good thing. Sacramento has its own identity.

Does anyone ever wonder if Stockton is part of the Bay Area? Doesn't seem like it, but it's actually far closer.

No. Sacramento is part of California's Central Valley. That is separate from the Bay Area. Drive between the two and you will notice a big geographic (not to mention cultural) difference -- or look on a topographic map. There is absolutely no question about this.

Stockton is also part of the Central Valley -- geographically different and worlds away from the Bay Area.

It depends on what media outlet you want to believe. TV and radio stations all want the largest possible are of influence, they sell ad space. The only read Lake Tahoe isn't part of the Bay Area is because it is laughable, otherwise you can bet the Bay Area media would quickly claim it so.

Sacramento is in the Sacramento Valley, inland so to speak. The only connection it has when it comes to being part of the Bay Area are the commuters and the water that flows past and through it on the way to the Delta.

I think it's funny how coastal Californians and Southern Californians do not understand the cultural, economic, and educational distinctions between the Sacramento Metro Area and the other parts of the Central Valley both south and north of the Sacramento Area.

Sacramento is culturally more like the Bay Area, and parts of LA metro than the rest of the Central Valley.

Even Sacramento's weather is distinctly different than the rest of the Central Valley: cooler summers, even cooler summer nights and mornings, less winter fog, and more rain.

Sacramento city politics has always been liberal to moderate and the Sacramento Metro Area's average income and education levels are significantly higher than the San Joaquin Valley.

The City of Sacramento and the Sacramento Metro Area has it's own identity miles apart from the "Central Valley".
