Today we drove up to Cool and it is beautiful. We are thinking about buying a house there. It seems great, but I was wondering if anyone is from there or can tell me a little more about the town. How do you like it? Is there any grocery stores and, if not, where do you go to do your shopping? Any info would be great!

I personally have never lived in Cool, but have stopped in a bit as well as the surrounding areas like Georgetown, especially Auburn. As far as shopping goes, there is a Raley's i believe in Georgetown, otherwise you would need to go back to Auburn which isn't too long of a drive depending on traffic on HWY 49. Otherwise the area and all others surrounding it are absolutely beautiful. There are a lot of things for an outdoor recreationalist to do around the area, and tons of hiking trails. The job market I would amagine is quite low though, but Auburn has a lot of oppourtunities; Good Luck

Thanks for the info! My husband would be commuting to Roseville for work, which is only 30 min. away, so not too far. The schools are excellent and there is so much to do. I really hope it works out! Oh, and I love the name Cool, too!

There is a supermarket in Cool ( a new Holiday market, very nice) There is a gated community Auburn Lake Trails, plus many rural properties on 1 or more acres. For many that look at living in Cool the canyon drive (Hwy49) is the deal breaker, but for some it is a joy to drive everyday and see the great views of the American River. Be prepared to go through brakes and tires.
I thought I heard the Cool name came from the limestone caves in the area.

The "Cool" name is derived from a minister to the 49ers in the area, Rev. Cool. There is a new Holiday Market in Cool; Georgetown also has a small market. The closest shopping would be in Auburn (you have a 6 mile twisty river canyon drive to get to Auburn; easy once you get used to it), but there is also Placerville, El Dorado Hills, Cameron Park, or Folsom. Residents there that I know often do shopping on their way home from work if it's something the Holiday Market doesn't have. Very nice place, great outdoor hiking/equestrian areas, wide open spaces, and the American River.

Snow is rare. It is only about 1200 feet in elevation.
